Just bought an Oneal Crossfire-7 helmet, flat black for $70.00 Is this a decent helmet. I imagine it was a decent price. What does that helmet retail for anyway?

I really think you get what you pay for. What is your head whorth. I
I spent $750 on mine. You can get a really good lid for $200.00

As far as the saying you get what you pay for, not always true. Motorcyclist Magazine did a helmet test in their Nov 2005 issue. I was actually an interesting test. Showed the cheaper helmets disipated the impact to the head twice as good as the expensive helmets (in general of course) They did two different kind of tests on the helmets. It actually shocked me to see the results especially seeing as I always went for the high dollar helmet

think about it this way. you shouldnt cheap out on the helmet because.... you can get the top of the line leather suit with the best sidi boots and gloves to match. your entire body may not have a single scratch on it but, just remember all those other body parts dont work very well without your head.

yeah i spent $700 on my shoei x-eleven, there is no comparison. But i would rather see someone spend $70.00 and wear a helment than see someone not wear one.

i am in the market for a helmet. i tried on the Arai 'tommy gun' helmet and loooved how it felt. far more superior than any other helmet i tried on. but that was stading indoors. who knows how it feels on the road at 80mph for 2 hours. know what i mean. i wanna buy i high end helmet. i'm a firm believer that "you get what you pay for." and i have no problem spending 700-800 bucks on head insurance.

what other helmets would you guys reccommend me looking at? i want something that will breath great. i loved the material that the Arai padding was made of.

there is a reason you don't see the helmet anywhere but ebay, I don't even think O'Neal makes that helmet anymore, I could be wrong though. Best cheap helmet I've found is the Zamp for about $150

i have to totally agree with hateahillbilly here. i read that same article, and i was amazed. granted the shoes, ari and other high end helmets fit real nice, and have very little buffetting, i didnt end up buying them. granted i didnt have the money, but after reading that and saying that the other cheaper helmets transfered less shock units to the head, i would take another look at the parts place, or parts unlimited helmet that actually won the helmet test. it was only something like 100 bucks.

im SUPER picky over helmets, last season i rode with a cheap helmet like that and crashed and had severe head damage. i just bought a simpson street bandit for this upcoming season. i was really mad with my self after the accident for buying a POS helmet! like said above, what is your head worth?

i have 3 Arai RX7 helmets similar to the tommy gun you tried on and i have to say it's very comfortable. you should not have a problem wearing it for long periods of time after you get a chance to break it in. i know i have gone for a 4+ hrs ride and did not have any problem with the helmet. i always wear ear plugs when going for that long or a ride so it would be more quiet. Try looking on eBay, I found all 3 of my helmets there for around $500 each compare to the $700+ retail price tag.

i have seen a lot of threads in all different forums about the same questions. overall i have to agree that why you want to go cheap on a helmet when your head is the most important part of your body. So everyone and preach all they want about spending tons of money on a helmet but at the end of the day it’s up to the individual to get what they want.

some of you might have already seen this but this is a testimonial of someone who crash while wearing an ARAI RX7.

At the very least as new a model as possible (helmets are only good in five year intervals) and SNELL approval is nice. Of course it MUST meet or exceed DOT ratings. A very snug fit is important at first, they'll loosen up a little with some use. Heck that's cheap enough you could keep it as a back up and maybe get another "nicer" helmet later on...

second that Sargeant. that`s why you will find top brands at half price or even cheaper on E-bay. might be old or with a crash on it
