: Yamaha R6 2005 model
Has anybody out there seen any spyshots or heard about the expected upcoming R6 (2005 model)? I believe it should sport radial brakes, upside down forks and underseat pipes just like the R1. Would appreciate if someone could provide some reliable or provide link to official information. I believe this year model will the last of the current generation model.
hcvsi1124 06-28-2004, 04:03 AM that sounds awesome i like the undertail exhaust,
dyezak 07-12-2004, 06:47 AM If you look at the past R6's they go in 2 year incriments. 99-00 was virtually the same bike, only a couple minor changes. 01-02 was again almost the same bike, but updated tail section from the 99-00. 03-04 was a totally new bike and everything between those two models are virtually the same. For 05 expect moderate changes: Radial breaks (because you just aint cool without em) and possibly inverted forks and more than likely an undertail exhaust. There will probably be some map changes in the ECU too to keep it up to speed with the newer 600's from the other manufacturers and possibly some titanium internals to help it rev faster. But don't expect a MAJOR overhaul like in 03, I would expect the Major overhaul to come in 07 (if history is a predictor).
The R6 Nerd 07-13-2004, 05:45 PM what if u have an 04, and the 05 is totally better and looks better, and u trade it in, how bad do u get screwed?
dyezak 07-15-2004, 12:01 AM You usually get $5500 for trade in on a mildly used one year old R6...you can get about $6500 if you sell it privately.
I spoke to Yamaha today (As I do once a month)
Typically of the modern way, they are keeping all developments highly secret. Anyone caught smuggling info or pictures out apparently faces severe punishment.... 3 months at Kawasaki
Seriously, they confirmed the rumour of the underseat exhausts (that bit obviously came out ages ago) but know of no other details apart from its formal announcement in December.
dyezak above has a very good point but I suspect there will be at least one serious motorsport derived development on it. They are absolutely convinced as a company that they have to be seen to improve on their previous models. They achieved this with the R1 which was already a fantastic bike.
This is good news for the consumer, bad news for the competition !
I reckon there might be changes to the forks, suspension, fairing and rear seat set-up. They might change the power band/gearing slightly and reckon on a slight lightening of the bike.
I believe their main focus will be roadholding keeping with the increased popularity of Track Days.
Then again , of course , I could be talking complete bollocks...
There is a simple 'de-exhausted' pic going round. I have it stuck it up on the gallery.

dyezak 07-19-2004, 11:45 PM There was a better image of the proposed 05 R6 in the June edition of T.W.O. (English sportbike mag). It had all the particulars (undertail exhaust, inverted forks and radial brakes)...but it had some interesting stuff too...non braced swingarm (to accomatate the undertail exhaust :?:) and lower clipon height. Also expect another "limited edition"...hopefully we can get the europe only yellow color here in the US in 05.
Jady.k 07-30-2004, 10:25 PM Don't think they are happy with the inverted forks......works good on a ninja but heard that on the r6 was some really bad vibration.......keep u posted.
ChkUR6 10-02-2004, 01:04 AM wow not much activity on this thread so I'll catch it up. For the 05 here is what Yamaha did......
Bigger throttle bodies
Improved fuel injection
Revised intake funnels
... and more, result in a smoother, fatter powerband with three more horsepower at 13,000 rpm.
To channel that power, a new, fully-adjustable inverted fork with 41mm tubes was added for the most precise handling possible.
It was too good a place to resist mounting powerful new 310mm front disc brakes, radial calipers and a radial master cylinder to even further exploit the R6’s amazing front-end feel.
The added rigidity of the new fork led to a redesign of the main frame to accommodate new rear suspension linkage.
Light weight, razor-sharp handling, unsurpassed overall balance – elevated to the next level.

R6FaN420 10-02-2004, 03:17 PM I dont think they're putting the undertail exhaust on the 05.
ChkUR6 10-03-2004, 02:09 AM No they are for sure not. I just put my deposit down on an 05 blue one today. One sweet bike.
NTFireFighter 10-03-2004, 12:47 PM mmm that it is...worth the money...im possibly looking for a new R1 in about a yr or 2
R6FaN420 10-03-2004, 08:28 PM I hope they put the undertail on the 06 model.
NTFireFighter 10-04-2004, 12:19 AM I doubt they will put an undertail exhaust on the r6, the horsepower loss is too much for a 600...unless they come up with more power, or use a duel exhaust system like they have in the R1 i dont know if i would even want to see it. engines power comes from a certian amount of back pressure from the exhaust, too free flowing and it wont run, too much and you lose power....the undertail exhaust to look good would have to be low profile, duel exhaust and that would lead to small pipes to keep the backpressure, top it off with a much more heat load on the body it would be hard to keep the cost of the bike down ... and i dont know if there is even room to run a duel exhaust.... i looked at the 600RR from honda and i def dont like the undertail exhaust, its big and bulky
ChkUR6 10-04-2004, 12:40 AM Besides you don't want what everyone else has. Anyway you could do it yourself if you want it bad enough.
hcvsi1124 10-28-2004, 04:17 AM im on the list to either getting hte black r6 or maybe an r1, but the all black "raven" one is tite
roninone 10-28-2004, 09:49 PM I'm planning to the R6 Raven!!! 8)

phat_r6 11-02-2004, 05:17 PM yeah i agree with the guest on that one. i kind of like to have my own style you know...
NTFireFighter 11-02-2004, 10:41 PM people always say they are gonna get one, but 8g's is 8g's and when it comes time to part with the money no one usally follows though, so believe it when you see it
roninone 11-03-2004, 03:59 PM
 Yeah but my R6 is going to be a different once I get the mods and paints running. :P
However, I like the Valentino colors version from that Italian site. I wonder how much are those covers run for the USA. but then again maybe I'll just make mine custom. hehehe
