: 05 stock suspension set-up?

Hi, I'm new here and just recently purchased a 05' Raven R6. I love this bike dearly. My last bike was a 99' ZX-6R. What a difference between night and day. I'm a veteran rider and have been riding bikes for 8 years now. I have a few questions

1. I have done a couple home stock mods so far. I hacked off the studs on the foot pegs, took off all the reflectors, took off all the safety stickers, shaved off the rear license plate plastic (kinda a home tail kit mod). I think it looks nice. Next I'm taking off the left passenger foot peg mount and right passenger peg. I think I have to take the pilot seat to get to the left pass. peg mount? I don't have the manual with me at this location.

2. I was wondering if anyone has had any great suspension settings to share with me. I only care about riding in the twisties. Unfortnately I have grown in size over the years ..just because of my build. I'm 24 and weigh aprox 190 lbs. I have a big ride coming up this Friday and some good twisty road and wanted to get my bike preped. The rear suspension feels ok stock, maybe needs more rebound, but feels like it can handle alot of throttle through some turns.

3. My next mods are going to be after I get new leathers.

1. Targa passenger seat cowl
2. rear sets
3. K&N air filter
4. steering damper (been out of the loop). Is there a good one besides Ohlins?
5. maybe a slipper clutch
6. braded lines
7. A carbon fiber, oval, slip on exhaust. I want to stay true to a yamaha race team. Everyone says Vance and Hines are crap. What slip-on would be suggested? I mainly want to save weight and have a good sound.

In that order.

Thanks..any advice is appreciated.

I might suggest that you reprioritize your list. If your into this for performance, especially in the canyons, I'd move the braided lines to the top.

2nd) I'd go with a full set of sliders, frame, bars, swingarm. These will lessen your damage in the event you go down. And they're pretty cheap insurance

3rd) a K&N and a Micron Pipe. I'm a fan of micron, pipes are subjective they are mainy sound clips on this board elsewhere....I forget the link.

4th) The steering Damper, this will help to keep you out of trouble in the tight stuff.

The rest is for show. I race and the only advantage I have to get rear-sets, is they are rebuildable for less money if you ball-up. If you think you need the added corner clearence, then your body position is off and you are pushing the bike further down then need be... you should hang off further.

The slipper clutch, again unless you are late breaking someone into a corner and you need that last little bit to prevent wheel-hop, I can't imagine that I'd justify the $$$ to get a slipper of the street. I race guys that have ZX6RR's with the slipper and I hardly ever hear them say the downshifted quick enough to spool it up.

And the seat cowl.....again all looks. Once I ditched my passenger pegs I just went out and bought a Sharkskinz solo tail. Then I sold the tail section, pillon seat, and pegs on ebay to recoup my money. No pegs = no passenger. And with the solo tail I don't have to worry about explaining how a ride with a passenger.

thanks for the reply. I'm not a fan of sliders to tell you the truth. I haven't dumped a bike since my teens in any mountain/canyon riding. Luckily I started out on a piece of crap when I started street riding. A good ol ninja 250 LOL. Then I had a CB1 and some mexicans ended that bike early for me :(.

If I dump my bike, it will just give me an excuse maybe to get some carbon fiber body work :P. I will have an occassional passenger, thats why I wanted something to just to replace the rear seat and I can attachs the pegs as needed.

I will follow your advice. I might be asking you how to get the left passenger peg mount off if I can't find the info in a search.

One other thing on the sliders... I crashed with and without. The up side to the sliders is they keep the bike sliding on the same side. With out them, the bike generally has a tendecy to bite in and flip. Then you end up with more damage then needed.

Also on the '05 I'm pretty sure the top motor bolt is in a poistion that you don't need to drill the fairings :D .

Only on the left hand side. The faring still covers on the right.
