I own a 2000 R6 with 30000kms. I'm just wondering how long will this bike last. How many kilometers could I expect to get out of this thing.

I heard that these bikes actually can last up to 100,000kms with just the regular maintenance. Is this true. I guess it also depends on how hard you are on the bike.

I have just recently gotten the Cam tensioner replaced and a major tune up. My mechanic adjusted the valves also.

One other thing is that I just installed a D&D slip on and geez is this the loudest muffler out there. It's frickin loud. My question is, regarding the muffler, should I get the carb jetted. When the bike idles it seems to be rough. It seems to bounce up and down in Revs. My mechanic also re-sync my carbs, but it was with the stock pipe.

Its really how you treat it and how much maitence you do to it, you know they are built well, so as long as you maintain them in theory they should last forever. Take like BMW or mercedes....they are built really well, and with normal maintence they last 200 - 300k, I even know a guy who put 350k miles on a ford with a diesel motor, and sold it for 10g's at 6 yrs old cause he maintained it all and kept all the records for it. But will a bike last that long? I dont think so, the RPM's and the way they work are different. I would expect about 60,000-100,00 miles out of it so long as the mechanic says all is well. Do the valve job, it will keep them from buring up bad and maybe blowing the motor.

Then again the dealership said my WRX was ok at 21k miles and at 23k the oil pump failed, and blew the motor apart or as the mechanic said "It looked like a hand gernade went off inside of there" The heads were warped really bad, all the valves burned up, broke 2 connecting rods, warped the main crank, cracked the block in 2 places, all the injectors were shot. So we do really never know

The r6 motor is easily a 100k motor. I've got 24k on mine and probably 30-40% of that is on the race track. I also ride it to work everyday.

At 19k I took her in for an early valve check because of the angressive life she leads. All was in spec. At 20k when I replaced the clutch I had a real good veiw at some internals, all were as shiny as the day I bought them.

I change my oil at a 2k mile interval. This is really short, but my bike lives a hard life. One thing to stay away from is riding long wheelies. This tips the motor back and starves the oil pump which in turn quickley kills the motor.

Some slip on race pipes don't require the carbs to fettled but chances are that if there are any rough spots it will be running lean as the engine can now breath a lot easier.
I recommend getting it on a Dyno and chances are they will need jetting, it's worth it otherwise you risk overheating the engine & blowing a piston. Also, if the fueling is well out you may create 'knock', when the fuel ignites on the upstroke wrecking pistons, big / little end, the works!!

Best not risk it.
