hiya,

I have an '00 R6 which is running great, but the speedometer is having some issues. First off, the oil light is always on, and second, the gas light is always on. I took it to Yamaha and they said I might have a bad ground somewhere. I just wondered if anyone here has had this problem and might have some advice on tracking it down. I do have some mechanical\electrical experience, but I don't want to go ripping apart the wiring harness without knowing which wires ground the speedometer.

BTW, I also considered replacing the speedometer assembly, but don't know if I could reprogramm the exact mileage into the new one, so any advice on that would be appreciated as well.

Thanks,
Glenn

Okay first off, shoot me a pm with an email address and I'll send you a copy of the wiring diagram. There really isn't any help that can be given you just need to find all the connections and make sure they're tight. You might also want to check for pinched wires.

As far as the speedo unit goes. You can't reprogram them. The new one will continue to show the mileage it had accrued on it's original bike. Or it will show 0 if you are buying a new one. However, if you swap speedo's and the mileage changes you need to get an exemption from your state's DMV otherwise it's fraud. And as enron has taught us, that is bad.

I was the guest above  After Fierohink sent me the diagram, I took apart my bike and cleaned/reseated all of the electrical connections I could find. It took a while, but it did fix the problem!
