so i was riding my brand new 2005 R6. still using the very first tank of gas its ever had and my gas light came on. looked at my odometer and i've gone 100 miles....thats wierd...maybe i have shitty gas mileage cause i havent mastered how much gas to give when taking off from stops.

i fill up my tank and my tank is full with only 2.7 gallons put in... my question is does the fuel light always come on after only 2 gallons used?

That sounds a little odd. Depending on how much stick you're giving the bike you should get between 30-35 mpg. Your gas light should be coming on around 140miles.

You might want to have the dealer check out the sending unit. It may be giving a false reading to the ecu. If so it should be covered under warranty because it is so new. Or it's possibly out of alightment from when the bike was assembled in the stealership... ahem I mean dealership.

My light has come on from time to time if the bike is parked on a steep slope. My driveway is not flat to say the least so if I only have a little gas the light will come on for a few then go back off when it is level.

the low light is set to come on when you have 1/5th of a tank of gas left. how fast you burn gas depends on how you ride, i run about 10-13 grand on a regular basis and i get about 230kms per tank, if i rev low i can milk it to about 250-260kms. a good way to check it is just do the math. the tank is 17litres, light should technically come on with 3.4 litres left in the tank (level ground), fill er up when the light comes on and it should take around 13 litres. if it does, the gas light came on when it should, and maybe you got a fuel consumption problem. other idea, figure out when the light does come on, say you fill up when the light comes on and it takes 8 or 9 litres, that means you got a half tank left, look at your kms on you trip meter (reset when you fill up) and double it, you will run out of gas at that many kms.

Ok So this your first bike? This is my first bike also and ive had it about 6 months. The first tank of gas i used was about 100 miles. it takes some time to break it in to get better gas mileage. i average 40-44 miles per gallon on my bike. but it wasnt like that till about the 4th tank of gas. And when the light comes on for me i usually go about 145 miles and put in about 3.5-3.8 gallons.

02 R6 I usually go between 130-160 miles per tank when the light turns on! in the summer i get that in the winter its worse for some reason!

125 to 140miles till the light comes on depending on how hard im abusing the throttle! make sure you are filling it full to the cap and use a couple of tankfuls to compare. Maybe its because its new and 'tight' that its using more fuel.

I have an 05' R6 and My light comes on significantly later when I go on a highway ride (about 130-140 mi.). When the ride goes thru the city, that significantly kills the milage, I've had it come on as low as 110 miles.
