Hi there all y'all,

I recently bought a '99 R6 (of course!!) and have noticed that at low speeds there is a slight front end wobble or weave. From around 5mph to 30 when you let go of the clip-ons you can clearly see them move from left to right.
It has a FSH, only 8700miles on the clock and has only had one owner from new. He had taken back to the dealer to get it looked at bt was told that this is perfectly normal.
Just wondering if any one out there knew what caused this or it as normal as they say? It's got D207's fitted with plenty of life left in them so i'm stumped.

Cheers for any help.

It's the front tire. The d207's tread pattern was very prone to feathering. Where the tread blocks would wear unevenly. If you look carefully at the tread you should notice that the leading edge of the tread is higher than the trailing edge of the next block. Mainly this comes from not having enough weight on a tire. (Imagine that an r6 with a light front end) Anyway, this imperfection in the tread surface causes the oscilation in your bars.

Switch to different tires. Both Pirelli and Michelin make tires that will make the d207's feel like bricks.

cheers for that,

I'll have a look this evening. Given that the rear is slightly squared off as well I was thinking about changing them soon and after reading MCN's tyre review I'll give the Pirrelli Diablo's a try.

Until then I will just have to keep the front off the ground - needs must and all that!

Haha yea, never let the front wheel touch the ground, good one. The Pirelli Diablos are very good tires, you shouldn't have a problem with those.
