: Picking up an R6 Real Soon
Entukay 05-21-2005, 07:09 PM Yo all, I'm just about to pick up a 05 R6 as soon as i sell this stupid ninja 250 ive been ridin around. I can't wait... anyways you'll be hearing more from me, and anyone in the Pittsburgh area wanna hit me up feel free im always down to meet other riders.
p.s. anyone want a 250?? http://www.fraksured.com/ninja250/
it's actually a great starter bike and a great bike to have my first wreck on.
Sweet, dude! Hope you can control your throttle hand!
BTW, eBay is a great place to sell your Ninja 250. Have you checked out that option yet?
Entukay 05-22-2005, 12:41 AM yeah i thought about that, but i figured i'd give it a week in the local papers before going that route. anyways i threw a for sale sign on it and i didnt even make it to the end of the street before having some kid flag me down. so i should be ok.
hawk6101 05-22-2005, 07:21 AM Welcome & GL selling & buying!
Be Safe!
Have you done your research? Are you aware of the problems some people are having with their r6's? I would take a closer look if I were you and not buy so fast. A 250 must be a real joke. I tried a 500 a few times and coulden't get over how much that 100cc makes a HUGE difference, coulden't dream of how slow a 250 is, but must make a good bike to learn on . cheers man! :)
Entukay 05-22-2005, 08:41 AM actually the 250 was pretty quick, surprisingly. of course nothing compared to a 600 but surprisingly quick nonetheless. i have had people ride my bike that were used to 600's and they said the same thing. but the best thing about it was it was great to learn on. and you can flick that thing like a mother in the twisties.

what problems?
Entukay 05-22-2005, 04:05 PM yeah what problems? i looked around the site for a while and couldnt find anything.. anyways its lookn like i might buy my friends brothers 03' limited edition instead of a new one, better price and in great shape.
I think you should all take a close look at this, and read all 17 pages. I promise it will leave a bad taste in your mouth.

and thers's more...
Oh yeah, the 05's are doing it too. It's a risk, kind of like Russian roulette .
Let me know what you guys think?

Entukay 05-22-2005, 07:36 PM from what i gather the problem either seems to be a late version power commander or a faulty kickstand switch.
hawk6101 05-22-2005, 10:14 PM Well..just gotta hope that the gear prob got fixed for the '05. Strange that I hadn't heard ANYTHING about this prob before getting my R6...and I did do research. Ahh well...thanx for the info!

No, it's not only that.....
Cooper29 05-23-2005, 07:27 AM Yeah "guest" it is a big cover by Yamaha and the users of this site.....we all have bum R6's but we cover it up and say we love the things.
Did you even take the time to read through the entie thread from the link I posted????
Entukay 05-23-2005, 02:44 PM i dont know if you are asking me or not but yes i read all 17 pages of the first and about half the second one until i skipped to page 31. thank you very much for the links though this has greatly modified my decision.
Tristan 05-24-2005, 04:12 PM No, I was sending that out to cooper29; but I'm very glad that you took the time to read it out. Freaked me out aswell and has made me change my mind too! I might wait till 06 and see if they revamp the efi and if not I'm going to forget about the r6 and get a 600rr . How about you, what's your plan?
Entukay 05-24-2005, 05:05 PM Well i could use a new car actually so this has brought up the idea of maybe just getting a car, and waiting a year for a new bike. I am a student and buying a bike right now, although possible is not probably a good decision. I was going to make that decision because i got a good deal on an 03' R6 however I will be passing it up.
Cooper29 05-25-2005, 11:55 AM I read it all. I just don't buy into everything I read. I have had a few Yamaha's....2 R6's and an R1, and have never had any problems at all. I also have a lot of buds I ride with most of which ride Yamaha. I currently have a 2003 R6 and it has just under 5k on it and I have not had any problems at all. I had just over 10k on my 2001 R1 when I sold it and the only thing I ever had to do to maintain that bike was change the oil, and tires. Never had a problem. Bike never shut off, etc.
To go a step further, the R6 has been the 600 bike of the year pretty much every year since 1999 to present. If there was a major problem with them, we would not need to find out about it on a website forum. That's all. I just don't believe the hype bro. Sorry.
I totally want agree with you there, but I don't know what to believe. The reason I'm confused is because nobody on this forum has ever had that problem, but it seems like everybody on the other one has. It's just weird.
Cooper29 05-25-2005, 03:35 PM I find it a little bit odd as well. Nothing in this forum like that at all, and we all have R6's....then all this......add on to that my direct experience, and the fact that I am very close with the owner of a superbike performance shop, etc. I am just not buying what you folks are selling.
Entukay 05-25-2005, 03:44 PM humm... those are actually all good really points i have never thought about before, however unfortunatly for me its probably a better decision to get a car still anyways. but im sure when the money is there I will have an R6 I love that bike.
Cooper29; I understand what you are saying and appreciate you point of view very much. We both know that most of the r6’s out there are among the finest super sport machines out there. However, there is definitely a few lemons out there with this problem . I don’t think they are making it up . What on earth would be the point and so many different people from different areas …
I too have owned an 03 r6 until 2 weeks ago . I never had any problems with it accept faulty left turn signal wires. And you, having so many specimens that have been fine to date and have treated you well, you have every right to continue praising yamaha . She has been good to you so promote the name.
I just feel that these guys should be compensated and that yamaha should do a recall on bikes that are affected . What do you think? As afore mentioned; no matter how open minded I try to be, it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Perhaps every manufacture has their lemons..? In the end I’m sure I’ll end up folding and get the 06 r6 . I don’t want no stinkin rr . Must be great to have owned both the r1 and the r6 .
Tell me, the r6 must seem like a toy after being on the r1? I don’t really have the balls to get an r1 yet but god do I ever want to; that or the insane busa… ever consider the busa?
And Matt; ummm the reason you don’t see any complaints here pertaining to this issue is because there is about 100 times more people on the other forum…lol

Yea, I thought about that after I posted. I don't know who you are, 'guest', but you should join the forum. You seem to be the kind of person who can argue a good point without putting it in people's faces. I'm glad to see people that do that, because the last thing I want to read is a post going off on somebody about how stupid they are when they're just trying to argue a point. A debater who considers others' points is always good for discussion forums.
fierohink 05-26-2005, 01:49 AM The only problems I'm aware of were on 2nd gen models like mine. They had a poorly designed battery that would seap acid. Some bikes had a bad set of gears inside the transmission.
The battery would leak if the bike was running without any draw. Like if you would disconnect all the lights to ride at a racetrack. This was fixed in later models as well as switching to a different battery if you contact Yausa. This would cause cosmetic damage to the swingarm when the acid would etch the finish. There were attempts to get yamaha to make a recall through class action but it didn't work. The best shot was to get it replaced under warranty if you still had one. My warranty expired when this started so since '03 I've had a shiny swingarm from the right and a hazed up one from the left. Oh well. And I still running the half empty battery with no problems.
The transmission woes came from a bad batch of metal in the 2nd and 6th gearsets. The problems would surface if you were in 6th and the motor would begin to surge like you had caught a false nuetral but you haven't done anyshifting. Last I was aware yamaha hasn't made a recall on this. I don't think it covered all bikes. I have an '02 with 24k miles and have had no trans problems, and I beat the snot out of my girl everyday.
Welcome to the R6 life. PM if you wanna ride I live in da burgh too.
Cooper29 05-26-2005, 12:35 PM Guest, you are right man, and I agree with you about all those people. The only problem I have with all those complaints on an internet site is that you have no idea how those people take care of their scoot. For me and the guys I am friends with, we are all older, have house's with pretty nice areas to garage our bikes, we pay top dollar to maintain them, have good mods, etc. A lot of times with sportbikes you have a lot of younger people who are so "leveraged" just to own a bike, they don't pay the good dollar to maintain it which can lead to some serious problems. If they live in an apartment and the bike is left outside, that could cause serious problems with the electric system etc. So there are a ton of varibles to consider. I do however feel bad for anybody that buys a faulty product and is not allowed to enjoy what they pay for.......that sucks ass and I would hate to hear that that is happening on a large scale with Yamaha.
As far as the R1 vs. the R6 is concerned......I love my R6....it still has a ton of power and I respect it to the hilt. As far as the R1, lets just say I will have the best of both worlds very soon.
burnrubber 05-31-2005, 12:48 PM give er, just try to keep the front wheel down and youll be arright, shes got good anchors too, when you throw em all out stay low and youll stay outta trouble, other than than, crank er up, youll be addicted after the test ride.
angrejohny 06-05-2005, 05:30 PM Has anyone here had this problem I have a 03 with 3000miles and have never had it??
