Hey!
I'm wondering if anyone knows where i can see some statistics over injures/deaths caused by motorcycle accidents?
Thx
Judging by the lack of responses we can safely assume its not the sort of thing anybody wants to see, read or be remembered of....
:(
Motorcycles are less forgiving than most forms of transport so we all know to take it easy, always be alert to potential danger and exercise due care and attention at all times.
Everybody have a great AND safe biking summer ! 8)

I can tell you from my own experience of picking riders up off the street that the ones who wear protective gear from head to toe typically live to see another day, most often with only minor injuries. For those who choose to go free from all that stuff, they suffer from all sorts of wounds from major road rash to burns to broken bones to paralyzation, to never riding again because they find themselves 6 feet under the ground.

Back in the late '70s early '80s, the government i.e. the national highway safety administration sanctioned a set of statistics in just this matter. It was done by Prof./Dr. Hurt of USC, and has since been used as the guideline and benchmark for insurance companies. Known through-out motorcycling as "The Hurt Report".
I'll try and find some good links for it.

Here are some useful links I found:
This one is a summary (http://www.clarity.net/~adam/hurt-report.html)
okay so it's just the one link. I can't find a complete copy of the report. I've always wanted a copy and I might just suck it up and pay the $50 and get a copy. To go along with my 9/11 commission report, and my yearly copy of federal budget, and my copy of...damn I'm a nerd.

Yea I gotta agree with badboy since I pick them up off the rd too, if you have gear on generally you make it out in 1 piece and injuries are to a minimal. But still that can have zero affect if you hit something else, or if someone else hits you as you slide. We have a guy decapitate his leg when he hit a deer and layed it down with all his gear on. He then slid right into a guard rail and the metal beam removed his leg for him. Or the guy who layed it down at 85 or so, all leathers on, slid stopped and was perfectly fine, til the car that came around the corner hit him. From personal experence most of the accidents i have seen are generally at fault of other people. But thats where I live. That can be completly different a state away, people might ride like complete jerks and pass people doing wheelies all the time and when someone doesnt see them pulls out into them or in front of them
And well here are some recent stats from the national highway traffic safety administration. It is PDF download, and if you scroll down to page 10 they show stats and cause for wrecks on motorcycles.
