i have an 02 r6 and im having some issues. over night it started missing really bad. so i do the test to see what cyl is missing. the number 1 cyl. is not firing. ive got all new plugs in it and i just put in a new coil ...... still no good.

i also notice a oil leak, and take all the fairings off and hose the bike down after it cooled off. then i can see that oil is coming out of the exhaust port on the head where the header mounts, as well as where the mid pipe bolts to the header.

so.. what do you guys think?

some have said bad piston rings or hole in the piston. and some have said its a wiring problem to the coil and its just not burning off the oil like it used to.

its just very strange that this happened over night.

im hoping and praying its not blown. i was riding with/racing my buddy on his suzuki the night before it started to miss. i will never hear the end of it lol

i can tell you from my own experience as i have a bad #1 cylinder too. it could be low compression or no enough gas (fuel mixture) to that cylinder. i wouldnt discard a bad coil too because they can work intermittently and is a PITA to figure it out.

I'm not a mechanic by any means, but a bad coil would not account for the oil getting into the cylinder. It may by a bad head gasket, but you want to take care of the oil getting into the cylinder first.

Once that's solved, try moving the coils around to see if the problem goes with the coil or stays with the cylider. This will tell you if it's a bad coil or something else not allowing the coil to fire properly.

Also, Google, Google, Google....and check other R6 sites for help. You'll eventually get there.

First thing I wold do is a compression test. That will likely be where you find the problem.
