I bought a used 2000 Yamaha R6. I noticed that my front tire is dunlop 207 and the rear tires are dunlop 208. Is this the stock setup? Also is there a big difference between the 208 and 207? If i am replacing the front tire, should i replace it with another 207 or a 208 model? Thanks for your help.

Sorry to post a reply without an answer to your question, but I want you to know that if I knew the answer, I would help you out. It always sucks to get no replys to a post, so I'm just trying to help out as best I can.

Okay the r6 came with d207s both front and rear. Generally you burn 2 rears to every front tire. Dunlop no longer makes the d207, it was replaced by the d207. So the previous owner more than likely couldn't find a matchinf d207 and updated the rear to the d208.

For the most part you want to keep the front and rear tires matching. Unless you get to the heigh level of riding where you preferr the charcteristics of one front tire mixed with another brands rear, but that's reserved to a very small category of insanely fast riders.

Some history on your tires. The d207/d208 are okay for the street. You get sick mileage out of them. But once you start to push things their limits are very easily acheived. Ride on a pair of michelin Pilot Sports for about 50 miles and you'll think the dunlops were made out of plastic or wood or something. Then Michelin goes and quits making the Pilot Sport.

Back to Dunlops, the d208 and d208gp are okay. Although after sampling other brands I can say personally that Dunlop is not very high on my list of tire manufacturers.

I wouldn't waste the money on another Dunlop. I'm pretty happy with the Pirelli Corsa's for the street. I've had some very limited interaction with the Michelin Pilot Powers which replaced the Pilot Sports and so far have a good feeling about them. If you want something super aggresive and your back will spend a majority of it's life on a track, I highly recommend the Metzler Rennsports. Those things are like chewing gum.
