This past weekend I hit my own personal speed record of 150 MPH on my bike. I would have gone faster but this little white light came on and scared the crap out of me. This is the first time I have seen this come on, other then when I start the bike up. I don't know what the RPM's were at the time, but I think I have hit those high RPM's before and havent seen that light. Is it just that, a shift indicator light? I was in sixth though if it is, why would it tell you to shift up in sixth?

That is just a shift indicator light set for an rpm, it doesnt matter if you are in neutral or if you are in 6th gear when you reach a certian rpm it will light up. You can change that rpm too where it sets off at. Just look in your yamaha owners manual and it will tell you or go to www.yamaha-motor.com and look there.

I dont know why yours came on that low i had mine at 156 at like 11000 or 12000 rpm so i had more gear to go and the light wasnt on yet. But who knows if the gauge is accurate, im gonna borrow a laser gun to get an accurate speed. Also did you change the gears at all?

You can adjust the rpm range of your shift light it's in your owners manual. I have mine set at 10,000 but I'm still on break in under 600 miles.

I haven't changed anything on the bike yet, bone stock. I did look in the manual after posting and saw that you could change it, I think I will do that.
I agree with NTFireFighter though with checking the accuracy of the speed with a gun, I feel as though I am not going as fast as it says I am some times. So maybe I wasn't going 150, darn, I guess I'll have to try it again :D

I think fierohink posted something about when the bike loses accuracy somewhere above 110, all it really is a mathamatical forumla that the ECU determines....something about the RPM's of the motor vs the actual wheel turning, and when you get it turning sooooo fast it might count it twice instead of once or vice versa.

Sometimes if you go to a race track for a small fee they will clock you with radar. And sometimes if you go to a local municipal police dept, for a small donation they will take their Laser or Radar gun to the track and clock you. I have it worked out right now with my dept where they will take their laser gun and clock me sometime in the next couple months so i will post it up there on how fast and what the gauge was reading.

Are they going to clock you at the track or on a highway like I95 or something? Thats nice that you have it good with the local police. I dont think I'm going to worry about it for now, I dont plan on doing 150+ too often  .

Mine came on at 154 mph......so I backed off. As far as the correct speed being displayed.....past about 110 to 115, the actual speed is not really correct. Not sure by how many percent, but I want to say it is like 7 or so. Although it should be pretty close to right right up to about 100 mph or so.......I got pulled over on Friday morning doing 97 mph in a 65.......and my speedo was at 94 when I realized that the fuzz was behind me. Amazing, but I got off with a written warning! Really nice cop.

HAHA nice, i can put money it was an older cop, probally near the end of the shift, if he were to inforce it, he would have to arrest you for reckless endangerment and the paperwork is not worth it since it doesnt hold up in court that radar really doesnt get motorcycles good and the only thing that works is LASER. I will get some tech specs from my SGT and post them on here regarding radar and laser and how it actually works and what not

I know I'm a little late responding, but I just got back from an all-expenses-paid-vacation to the swamplands of Louisiana.

I had my first scare with the shift light this weekend. I have mine set @ 13,000 (I have read that the engine is producing max power @ 13,000 rpm). While tooling down the highway, a GSX-R750 came by me at warp 8, so I decided to join em. With my face pressed down low, the shift light snapped on and I about wet myself...lol...I have many hours logged in military helicopters & when any lights come on while you are haulin butt, it is normally a bad thing!

Thanx! Since this is my first bike, I really don't have much to compare for the muffler...but I can say, I do like it better than the stock one

yup thats your shift indicator, go into your owners manual, it will tell u how to set it, i set mine to come on at 13,000 and stay on till about 16,000. that way at high speeds or in wheelies you dont have to watch the tach, the flashing light gets your attention when its time to watch your revs. mines set as more of a "warning red line coming soon" light than a shift light. i shift when i feel like it.
