Helmets:
Shoei and Aria probably make the best helmets. But anything is good as long as it's SNELL and DOT approved. Try a few on and you'll notice a difference. The ones that are nice and aply even pressure to your whole head and of a higher quality and price then the cheesy ones with the hard styrofoam and cheap liners.

Golves:
Try anything that is "full guantlet". This means the gloves will go over your sleeves a bit. Anything with some armour on the knuckles and padding in the palms will be great. Check out here (http://www.newenough.com) for stuff thats usually inexpensive. Again name brands will give you better satisfaction the fly-by-night industries.

Boots:
I rode with a pair of steel toed work boots for 20k miles and 3 seasons at the track before I got a real set of riding boots. The idea is you want ankle support, and arch support over the pegs. Wether they're Doc Martens, Sketchers, Timberlands, or Oxtars it doesn't matter. You can always get better stuff later.

Leather:
I run an Aerostitch 2 piece Roadcrafter suit for the street. It fits over your clothes so it works great when I ride to work. I have a 1 piece race suit by Vansons for the track. But I got that at the tail end of last year. The 3 years prior I ran my aerostitch suit at track days.

Shop around. Basically any brand the pros ride with, will be good enough for everybody else. That's why the pros use'em

You have some excelllent info in the post above. The key thing is to find a dealer that carries a wide selection and TRY STUFF ON. There are plenty of good companies out there but everything fits different. Some guys love a certain fit of a certain helmet. For instance, I always ride Arai helmets, love them, some guys like Shoei a lot more......both great helmets though. Same with gloves, jackets, etc.

Some good quality helmet brands that will last you several seasons are Arai, Shoei, Suomy, HJC (cheap but are snell and dot), Icon (also cheaper but also snell and dot). I would spend the money on a good helmet....it is your head bro.

The other stuff.....Jackets, Gloves, look for Vanson, Icon, Dainese, Alpinestars, Joe Rocket, Nitro, the list goes on. Grap a sportbike magizine and you will find ads for all this stuff.

For boots, I ride in sketchers and Icon. I can't wear the full race boots, just don't like them.

Hope this helps.

Oh, I forgot to mention, my Aerostitch suit is TEXTILE.

I have crashed in it several time on the street and on the track and various speeds and can speak personally about how good it holds up.

Most recently I wore at Summit Pointe Raceway in WV, and had a high-sider at about 85mph. Only damage was I had to replace the dual density pads. They give their life so you don't have to.

And Aerostitch has a complete rebuildable suit. You box it up and mail it back, they give you an estimate (which is really reasonable when you deal with them) and they repair and re-sew the whole suit.

Kudos to the Rider Warehouse (http://www.riderwarehouse.com) for building a quality suit.
