Hi guys, i'm new here and new to the world of bikes altogether. I've loved bikes pretty much all my life but have never been able to afford one (still can't really) but i need my own transport once I move to london and a bike would be much more suited to me than a car.

What I want to ask is what you guys would reccomend as a good starting bike for a total newbie and how much I would expect to pay for one? Thanx in advance. :D

I started on the R6, but you have to be cautious and not do anything silly with a new 600cc supersport. You can get a smaller power or displacement bike, like a gs500 or an ex500. They make less power so you have less chance of getting yourself in trouble. But they also make less power so you may find yourself limited one day.

As far as price goes. It depends on what you want. In the back of every months MOTORCYCLIST they pick a good used bike model and give the pros and cons and prices throughout the years. This month was the gsxr600 and had prices from like $3500 for a '98 to $7000 for an '04. But you could prob pick up a nice 3 or 4 year old sv650 or similar for $2500. Check out ebay and see what some prices are running.

Remember you're buying your first bike, not you last. So if you don't get everything you wanted this time. You'll know more when you buy your next bike.

Thanx :) I was definitely gonna have a look at ebay. I'm gonna go second hand to begin with. I'll look out for the ones you mentioned
