Hey all,

When I was a newbie, I felt the urge to keep my bike imaculate. (as I do now, but that's not the point) Anyway, in the process of cleaning the bike I put a little tire cleaner on the tires to give them that awesome "wet tire" look.

This isn't a good idea if it's crossed your mind! The first corner you go into and give the bike a little go-juice the rear tire might spin and you might just lay down the bike. Turns out the tire cleaner will make your tires super slippery.

Eh, newbie mistake.

Lates.

Yea the stuff that is used in "Tire Wet" is basically a lubericant, you can get the same affect with some WD40 or maybe something with a teflon base to it. What you did was basically getting oil and putting them on your tires. Even if you are really really carefull around the edges it just doesnt work well.

If you want them to look good, get a really good automotive soap, scrub the rims and tires by hand, make sure to get that tiny bit of sidewall, and work it really hard. Rinse and dry. When its really dry just get a little wax and wax the RIM but nothing else around the tire. It will glow again just like a new tire, without getting teflon based "Tire Wet" on it and taking the chance of dumping it.
