I seen that R6 said he is kinda old, so that's what I'm wanting to find out, tell some ages(guys and girls). I'm the old guy, 39 in 7 days, been riding for about 26 yrs, please don't tell me I'm old.

There is no way I could have afforded the insurance at that age or had the cahones.

Take it easy out there.

So which sounds worse?
You're double his age...or...You're old enough to be his father?

JK, just think about the things that the yung'uns missed out on...at 18 that means born in '85 or '86...
- probably never saw a Datsun or ridden in one, especially with an 8-track
- didn't really know Reagan and that Star Wars wasn't only a movie
- just started kindegarten when the FIRST Gulf War happened.
- Jordache jeans?
- Mork
- "dee plane! dee plane!"
- "Where's the beef?"
- Michael Jackson has always been white

Good point , well presented.

Its hard to believe that Star Wars came out in 1977 !

It often goes full circle though. All the great TV shows are either made into film, like Starsky & Hutch, or reshown on the cable channels.
Though its difficult to explain how good 'Dallas' WAS... It looks bloody awful if you watch a rerun now.

I'll get my jacket....

2-8-86 is when I was born.

Old enough to be my dad, that's kinda funny..Mabey we can go ride togeather pops

I graduate in 4 days, Im money from that, and from one of my cars im selling to buy the bike. Insurance is going to be nuts. I had a few people laugh at me when I asked them for a quote.

My best quote so far is 1500 a year :(

Rascal
06-07-2004, 06:37 AM
Thats a fair quote considering your age and the bike model...
Youd pay the same or worse for a sports car...

It does get expensive, the 'gear' cost another 1000... :(

r6
06-09-2004, 10:25 AM
Good deal.

Just 6 months !? Do you lay the bike up over winter and use it just for April -October ?
I know a few people who do that, makes a lot of sense. They have the bike running over the track season only.

Diesel + road + winter rain = trouble :(

Of course, proper drivers with real cahones dont worry about such things..

johnnyp
06-16-2004, 06:52 AM
its a good idea to store it for the winter months.. if the bike isn't paid off yet, you'll still be making payments and full insurance for the months your not riding!

oh yeah. age: 24 riding street 3 years

Man, I feel old now... 25 here rode while I was in college and I too had my bike stolen (but recovered, wrecked). Total time riding is like 4y, though for 2y I never owned a car and owned 2 bikes. 1500 a year isn't bad, especially for 18.

I am 39. Started riding when I was 17 and stopped when I was 20. Only startred riding again 2 years ago. Can't wait till 2005 so that I can get my hands on the next generation R6. I checked that insurance for the R6 in Singapore and for my age group is around US$300 for third party with fire and theft option. Quite inexpensive when compared to most western countries.

We pay around US$120 road tax per year for a 600cc bike. How much you guys pay over there?

Im 23 and been riding street for 6 years, rode minibikes and dirt bikes before for years. Had lots of experience, crashed a few times (in my opinion young DOES mean stupid and inexperienced in my case-thats why my insurance is so high) totaled two of my bikes (note to self; dont ride fast on gravel, in fact try not to ride on gravel at all) slid through intersection when some idiot cut me off. oh well live and learn right been safe for 4 years now, knock on wood.

Im 19 going to be 20 in 2 months, i Have been riding for almost a year now, and I love it!! I actually rode horses my whole life and dirt bikes since I was 14. I always wanted to ride a motorcycle but my Dads friend was killed on one, so that was kinda out of the question. For my 19th birthday I decided to just do it anyway, and I did. I paid 5500$ cash and didnt even have a permit. I started out slow(teaching myself how to ride)in the parking lot of my apartment complex. Then I got daring and drove it down to rt.37, the infamous racing road, with fake plates, not a good idea, but anyway, I had a great time! Got my license, got plates, working on ins. but still riding as much as I can.

WOW, I didnt think I would post on a subject like this, considering all subjects like this get corny in the other hobbies (BMX, Imports...) but this is really interesting. I am 21, just bought my bike a week ago. 5 minutes of riding experiance beforehand, on a buddy's Suzuki Ninja 600... Anyway, ive learned quite a bit in just a week, enough to sound silly if i told you ive pushed it around 113 mph a few times already, with only a history of BMX riding. But I never knew people took a while to learn. I just studied myself, preparing for MSF school, and stayed confident. Im confident when i ride, i dont pull wheelies or anything, going 113 is due to passing cars on a 65mph highway. When i push that throttle it goes. But at that speed i know to slow because crosswinds will push me around quite a bit... blah blah, i just cant believe i am the way i am after reading about you guys. Guess I should take it easy, but i sure feel like i know what im doing, got any situations that i can try to practice more? (ex.suddenmanuevering, braking, slalom, awareness?)

I'm 17, 18 in July. I don't own an R6, or any bike for that matter, but I have a good friend who lets me ride his '93 Katana 600. He's taught me everything I need to know and more, and I will be taking the MSF class on June 10, which means that I'll be a super-safe and super-knowledgeable motorcyclist (but definitely not SLOW!) When he leaves for the marines this summer, he's going to let me borrow his bike. I'm really psyched about it! I already have a good portion of riding experience under my belt.

i guess this reply is a little late but 52 yr old australian guy riding and loving the R6 been riding bikes since i was 16 and have to say the R6 is by far the best bike i have owned, i ride it to the moto gp races from home a return trip of 2,000 kms and i do it in one ride stopping for fuel and food breaks only, not bad for a pure sports bike and an old fart,
one drawback with the R6 is the local spped limits just dont match to how fast i like to ride the little bike, riding it not quite as much lately as i only need one more speeding fine to loose my liecense

38 here, going on 39 in 4 months. Thats the reason I ride with a dark smoke face shield...to hide the wrinkles and gray hair!!!!

It's good to know I am not the only 30+ rider out there, Hete, Manhulk, R6 Admin, Christ and N3rdy, I'm starting a new R6 Forum for "elderly" riders!! And Cooper, pushing 30 aint bad, it only gets better!!!!

All the youngsters out there, ride safe. I am glad I got my R6 once I matured, I was/am a hard headed bastard and know now that I would have surely killed myself at 18.

Well I am 26 and have been riding for almost 3 months now, have been wanting a bike since I was five but the best I ever did was ride friends dirtbikes,ATV's and quads. Helped me shifting but everything else is a different experiance. Bought a 2007 R6s and couldn't be happier. Just got my 600 mile break in service about 2 weeks ago and bike is awesome. 81 got to see atleast most of the things in previous post, luckily I missed the whole jordache jeans thing, but tight pants are coming back lol, I cant breav haha

I'm 24, and have been riding street for about 5 months. I have had dirt bikes and quads growing up, but my R6 is the first street bike. Needless to say I was scared sh*t less the first couple of times I took it out! But I'm getting better and more confident each time I take it out.
