Whats up guys. I am new to the board, this being my first post. I ran a search and as far as i could see this topic has not been previously discussed yet. Anyway, im lookin to powdercoat my wheels on my 04' R6 to make it stand out a bit from the crowd. There are swarms of em here on long island, and i cant stand not bein different. This is a relatively inexpensive thing to do (about $120 per wheel), and im psyched about it. The big question is, what color to choose. I originally wanted to get them done to match the blue of the bike, but the guy doin the work cannot match it perfectly. Colors also cannot be 'blended' while powdercoating because your dealing with solid particles, and the result would always be unpredictable when mixing colors. So i was thinkin possibly white since he cant match the blue. Any feedback or color suggestions would be greatly appreciated  . Again its a blue 04 R6. Thank in advance guys, look forward to hearing your responses..............TOM
ps......just realized i posted in the lounge area by mistake and not the mods area....sorry bout that

I was just thnking of what it would look like since the Subaru WRX's blue paint is simular (WR Blue Pearl) and they use gold and silver which always look hot. Mine are a nice bright silver (OZ Superlaga Rally) and i like the way they look, but gold looks really hot with the blue too so long as you keep them clean. As far as blue goes i would ask him for a sample of what it looks like dried so you can get an idea. otherwise i would go with silver or gold.
Could also get the paint taken off and have it brushed and polished to be reallly shiny but takes a lot of work to keep shiny and clean
Yah good call bro........He does actually have a metallic gold powdercoat. I just wish i could picture it done before actually doing it. Maybe i can get someone to do a lil photoshop work, or else ill just have to go for it and hope for the best!..... :D

White would look different. And as long as you give them a quick wipe off after each ride, it's not hard to keep white clean.
You could go crazy like lime green or something. Suzuki used to run it's gixxers with either lime or purple wheels.
Just remember you performance is gonna blow once you're done added all that reciprocating (turning) weight. On wheels, brakes, chains, etc spinning items you have to accelerate them twice. Once to spin them, and once to move it forward with the bike. So it adds up to twice the work the bike needs to do.

I dont think your perfomance will be affected that much. Before the wheels are powdercoated they will have to sandblast them to remove any paint on it since only bare metal can be powder coated. I have called a couple places around my area and its only about 35-40 per wheel.

Hi! I work in a performance powder coating shop here in Canada. (Powder coating race bikes/cars, ceramic coating of exhaust/headers to keep temps down) and if you have aluminum wheels, DO NOT sandblast them! You will ruin them and have to buy new ones. As far as colors go, we carry "Yamaha blue", so an exact match to the Yamaha color is possible. Also, I have a buddy who did his R1 Rims in something called "Silver Vein" and that looked really sharp. Gold Metallic Flake is also a good match to a blue R6.

My opinion is to do the main color of the bike, especially if you're bottom half is black like my red '02. But with the blue, that color goes all the way down to the lower fairing, so I would say white would look good, or the grey/silver to match your logo.
If they do want to strip the paint off of your wheels make sure they don't sand them and only do a chemical dip that is safe for alum.

A friend of mine has gold wheels on his blue/white R1 and they look 10 times better than the black ones on my R6.
Saying that though, I do have a silver/black paintjob so gold would probs look a bit shite.
Why not save the bucks and get yourself some Carbon/magnesium OZ or Marchesini's?! Only a bit more expensive!!!
