I hope you have the factory tool kit that should be under the passenger seat and some sockets from your own tool kit. If not you're going to have to visit your local tool emporium. I prefer SEARS, lifetime warranty, Made in the U.S. of A., reasonbly priced, lots of specialty tools to chose from.

The little tool kit under the seat should have the hex key that you need to take the fairings off. From there you'll need a 16mm?(I'm pretty sure it's a 16mm) and motorcycle oil filter wrench. And that should take care of you oiling needs.

AS far as brand to use, that is a very personal issue. Personally I use Yamalube regular black cap. It's what came with it new, it's what it'll die with. So far 23k miles and no complaints. I've run AMSOIL synthetic in other bikes and car and trucks and stuff. It's a very good synthetic but also a little pricey. It's your choice, just make sure you get motorcycle oil and not regular car oil.

The brakelines are a very good upgrade. It often gets overlooked. People spend all kinds of money to go faster, but spend nothing to go slower. Anyway, you'll need a box end wrench (I think it's a 12mm) to undo the bolt at the master cylinder at the bar and the bolts where the line goes into each caliper. Once you've replaced the lines, you'll need to bleed the brakes to get the air out. On the twin calipers the only good way is to get the MITY-VAC one man bleeder kit. It's like $50, but it'll make bleeding the brakes and replacing the brake fluid every year a charm instead of a chore. Also use good brake fluid like DOT 4 or DOT 5. Don't go cheap and use car stuff.

Its definatly a good idea to upgrade brakes and lines and etc, cause what good is going fast if you cant stop it when you need to. You should almost consitter it a safety upgrade not a performance one. As far as the oil goes, there are a lot of companies out there, and lots of styles. Just go with what your mechanic recomends, but i mean there is yamalube, royal purple, mobile 1 and etc, its really what you wanna spend

Another thing that you should look into is brake pads.

I highly recommend EBC HH+. You'll probably spend about $60 to get pads for both calipers, but you won't regret it. I think Team Pro (http://www.teampromotion.com) has them on sale through their parts club buy 2 cards get 1 free. So you'll get the 2 for the front and a free one for the back.
