I've just insured my new R6 with Motorcycle Direct as I was already with them and I just had to pay an additional £128 to cover me until September. Most of my bike insurance has been through MD over the last six years.

However I reckon you should also try Yamaha Insurance Services, your local Yamaha dealer should be able to give you the number but if not I know where I can lay my hands on the leaflet I got from my local dealer. Their quote for annual insurance was actually cheaper than MD, but it made sense to stay with MD until renewal.

Of course other factors may be affecting your quote, such as bike security, garaging and your location. Is there anything you can do to store the bike more securely, or do you think the size of the quote is just to do with your age?

I'm 20 - no bike no claims. Full car licence.
Gonna be getting a restricted R6.

Carole Nash Insurance quoted £599 TPFT and about 1100 fully comp.
I've checked this several times - the ninja's and gixers are quoting much higher!!

Hense the reason i'm going for the R6 - I asked why and they said that one of the quoting companies specialises in that particular grouping of bike

In PA, State Farm quoted me $650/yr (about $50/month) and that includes comp. and collison for either a $250 or $500 (i can't remember) deductible, and i'm only 21. It's about 1/3 of my car insurance - you can't go wrong with that

I'm paying around the same as Jota21 ($650 as year), through State Farm. From what I gather, State Farm is the best for bike insurance (in the U.S. anyway). As far as Europe, I have no idea. You have to pay taxes on your bike every year as well, don't you?

I'm 25. Got my 04 R6 on fully comp with zero no claims and full licence held for under a year for £625 with Carole Nash.

Advice:
1) Use a big, insurance approved lock
2) Keep in garaged
3) If possible use a postcode which is 'less dodgy' -i use my uni address
4) Datatag, datatool, smartwater saves about 5%
5) Ride without pillion status. R6 isn't for pillions anyway
6) Take a voluntary excess of £250
7) Keep the miles low,
8) Use a different primary vehicle -big saver overall

My original quote from Norwich Union was £2500 TPFT.

Good luck
