Hi there,
I just bought a Yamaha yfz R6 2005 on Ebay and shipped it to Peru.
The bike had a light accident and is still in well condition.
Seller stated that he did not use it over the last 3 years.
I hired a bike mechanic in Miami (friend over friend connection) to check the bike before shipping to Peru. He mentioned to clean the tank. He said the pump is bad and has to be exchanged. he asked for $ 200. Which we paid.
He confirmed that he cleaned the tank and exchanged the fuel pump.
Well I received the bike and does not start.
I checked the tank. GRrrrrBrrrrr 2 hands full with rost I could take out.
The fuel pump works, but I do not know if it has enough pressure.
The white pump frame looks original but is it still the orignal pump?
Does the original pump has any marks or yamaha sign on it.
We opened the volves. The injector spray badly.
Can anybody tell me where I can find all possible fuel filter?
How to exchange the spark plugs?
Do I need special tools for changing the sparks?
What should be checked and serviced at this bike?
We do not have a lot of parts in Peru, so I have to try at first all possible little tricks to clean the bike to get it runing.
The biggest problem. The bike is still in the port and will not be released from the Aduana (customs) if I can not ensure that the bike is runing.
I need to get it run for min. 10 Min. to get it released and transfered to a Yamaha service place. I am not allowed to bring in the port, new parts.
I have still 10 days to take care for the bike otherwise it has to be reembarqued. Am I busted? I do not know yet. One think is for sure. The mechanic in Miami is eating a steak and possible smokes a big Cuban Cigar from my $ 200.
For any help and advise I am very thankful.

I'm not sure how much you are allowed to do in port, so I'll make some suggestions and hopefully you can get the bike running.

As far as cleaning the tank, you don't need to do much. Empty the tank and then add maybe 250ml of Isopropyl alcohol and shake it around. This should dissolve any junk in the tank and will easily pour out, plus any residue will evaporate.

There isn't any way to tell if the fuel pump if the original or if it was replaced by another Yamaha pump. The only sign would be if they replaced it with an aftermarket pump, then it would no longer have a Yamaha part number. Once you get the tank clean, try to run some clean gas through the pump and see how well it flows. You can add maybe 50-100ml of alcohol per litre of gas as a cleaner if you are having flow problems. Outside of the pump should be a small inline fuel filter, maybe the size of your thumb, which should be replaced.

As far as the spark plugs go, you need to remove the fuel tank and the air box. Then you should have access to the top of the cylinder head to remove the spark plugs. They are multi-prong plugs so they either have the correct gap or need to be replaced, you really can't adjust them like ordinary car plugs.

With clean fuel and a cleaned pump, hopefully your bike will stay running. If you are really in a bind and need to get it running to get out of customs.... shoot some ether (starting fluid) into the ram air tubes or add about 5-10% alcohol to the fuel. Start small and only add a little bit. It should have the same effect as spraying starting fluid since alcohol burns much easier than gas.
