: Is this a good deal on an r6? tire???

Ok so I am buying an 01 r6 red/black with 17.5K miles on it. Never been down, clean title, yoshimura tri oval carbon pipe, SS front brake line, tinted wind screen, fender eliminator kit, and flush mount turn signals. I went aqnd looked at it and everything looked good. The fork seals were good, and the frame was strait, no scratches on the casing of any sort. He is selling it to me for $4,200 with 2 shoei helmets, joe rocket jacket,/pants, and gloves. and an extra set of tires with 50% tread left. The only thing that happene was some cut his ignition to try and steal it but he caught them and filed an insurance claim were they fixed it. Would that make it a salvage title? Also on it he has PIRELLI SUPERCORSA SC1 which i heard are strictly track tires. Would it be dangerous for me to use those on the street. Sorry about the long post. I am new to the r6 thing and hope to be talking to you guys some more. Previosuly i owned a 01 yamaha yzf600r. So i'm just stepping it up a bit.

Okay do you know what a "clean title" looks like?

You didn't mention where you are so I can't give specifics to your state but in Ohio, Penn, MD, and WVA a title will go to salvage if it has been totaled by an insurance company. When this happens the insurance company contacts the DMV and they reprint the title and it will say salvage or rebuilt or reconstructed. You can ask the seller for the title number and contact your state's DMV and they'll tell you.

As far as the supercorsas go. They are super sticky on the track when they are brought to operating temp. Problem is you won't ride hard enough on the street to generate the heat they need so you'll be riding around on $400 worth of tires and not getting grip they were designed to give. They won't be dangerous per se, but they weren't meant to be run cold. So you'll have somewhat comprimised stopping and cold weather traction. PLus you'll have crappy wet weather grip.

Also you said you were getting a second set of tires. Are they supercorsas as well? As you said you heard the corsas being a "track tire" that's a good estimate. So I would guess this thing has probably been to the track. Supercorsas are more expensive than regular supersport street tires like a michelin pilot. Usually people don't spend the jing unless they are going to use it. Which would make me skeptical of the condition of the bike. If you go to the track enough, you go down. Side covers, fairings, tanks, they can all be replaced.

Oh and you said the frame is straight. Did you measure it? How did you come to this conclusion. Even if you had the dimensional specs for the frame you wouldn't be able to tell unless you stripped all the plastic off and bolted it to a jig. I just question this because not everyone out there is willing to say "yeah I cartwheeled this thing like three or four times" and then try to get top dollar out of a buyer.

the other set of tires are just some normal dunlap tires. He told me the tires he got from his friend who races in michigan and he send them down to him during the winter for $100 because they use them for one race and then gives them to him. He said he has never raced it at the track. He also said he has only rode it 3-4 times in the last year b/c he was in south korea because he is in the airforce. As far as the frame i just eyeballed it with the rear to the rear wheel.
