I am going next week to possibly buy an R6.
It is a 2005 raven with a gytr shorty exhaust, K&N filter, Power commander "dyno mapped" with accelerator pump download, corbin leather seat, smog pump removed with graves block plate.
The questions I have are:
What questions should I ask before I buy?
What kinds of things should I look for before I buy?
What should I feel for during the test drive?

I have ridden sport 4-wheelers most of my life but this will be my first motorcycle.

when i bought my bike it was new so i can't speak from experience. how many miles on it just out of curiousity? i would ask the person how it was broken in (what approach did they take...make sure it wasn't a hard breakin with nothing higher than 8K rpm first 600 miles and then no higher than 10K till 1000 miles), ask how often oil was changed, how often chain was lubed and cleaned, how many miles the tires have on them, has it ever been dropped, was it garaged or left outside, what kind of rider the person was (aggressive versus passive)...that kind of thing.

When you look at it, look for obvious signs of being dropped (scratches, dents, etc.) obviously make sure everything works (signals, light, gauges, etc.) make sure the panel clips and screws aren't damaged, and look at the exhaust system to make sure there isn't any weird build up of anything and that there aren't any holes, and then look at the chain for signs of wear.

when you take it for a ride make sure it doesn't vibrate excessively, make sure idle is smooth and at the right rpm (not sure what it is for your bike but mine is ~700rpm), shift through all the gears and do that through varying rpms, ride around for a bit and then let it sit with the engine still running, make sure it doesn't overheat. the last thing i would do is just listen to the bike. since you've ridden 4 wheelers before you should be able to tell if it doesn't sound right.

hope that helps...good luck on your purchase.

That does help, Thanks.
It has 2000 miles on it, he said he is the second owner.

I will let y'all know how it went after the meeting, again thanks for the reply.

I just bought an '00 R6 (still waiting on delivery.) I stopped and talked to a guy who works at the local Harley shop and asked him what to look for on a used bike. He said check the forks, see if they're bent or even dented. Also, look for any oil residue on the forks. Don't want the fork seals blown and leaking. Check to see if the frame is straight. Check for dents and dings on the frame. It may look "alright," but depending on your state, you might not be able to get it legally registered if insurance has written it off for salvage. Make sure it's not leaking any oil. And check the clutch lever to see how smooth that is. Your clutch "master?" cylinder (or slave cylinder?) might have problems. When I asked if there was anything I might have missed that he felt I should have asked him about, he remarked that that covered most of the things one would need to look for, if you're as mechanically disinclined as I am. Hope this helps.
