Hi all,

I have managed to get hold of a 03/04 R6 rear shock with the hope of fitting it to my 2000 model, does anyone know if this is possible, the mountings all look the same and seems the same length??

My current shock has done 44k miles so Iam guessing that it wil be shot, (I havent yet ridden the bike as Iam brought it to clean up etc.)

Also has anyone had any experiance of R6's with high mileage, is anything else likely to need replacing?

Many thanks.

here's what you need to do. you need to find the stroke length of your '00 shock and find ou the stroke length of the '04 shock. If they're the same you should be golden. As far as mounting goes, both had similar setups so you'd just have to make sure you spun in the same number of threads when you attached the U bracket so your bike would still have the same geometry.
You could probably check with RACE TECH or PENSKE and ask their techs if they would work.
As far as what to look for with that many miles.... Check steering head bearings, get the valves adjusted, synch the carbs, and on a pre-'03 model r6 check the swingarm right by the left foot control bracket for discoloration from leaking acid out of the battery. Prior to '03 the seap hole on the battery was in a position that during heavy charging the battery would leak acid onto the swingarm! Other than that you should be okay. I have 23k on mine and most of that was track time.
