Hey everyone! Im brand new to this forum, and I would like some input.
Im thinking about buying my GF's brother's 01 R6. I have no intention of riding this bike on the street. Instead I was looking at it for a track only steed. My question is What would it take to make this bike a competent track bike?

Before you make power, there are some cheaper long term enhancements that help even if you don't have power yet. Switch to braided steel brake lines or Kevlar lines in the front, the back brakes don't get used much on the track.
Upgrade your brake pads. Period. I run EBC HH+. There are other companies, Vesrah, Galfer, etc. You'll find a lot of things will become personal prefference. I like EBC, I'm not a big fan of Vesrah, other people could say the same about Vesrah over EBC. I liked Michelin tires until I found Metzler/Pirelli tires, but a lot of that was due to crashing on a set of Michelins and having the superstition of the crash over my head.
Throw some frame sliders on.
Switch to aftermarket clip-ons. I run the two piece Vortex but would like to switch to the three piece at some point. The three piece allow for easier and quicker front end tear-downs. Either way, replacing $20 aluminum bars are cheape the $100 factory bars.
Switch to Water Wetter or Evans Coolant. Most tracks require it because it isn't as slippery as ethyl-glycol anti-freeze. Both of these aftermarket coolants will poduce a cooler running engine than conventional ethyl-glycol.
Plus get some sticky tires.
