Whats up fellas. I was just searching around the net and found this site. Considering I'm probably going to get an r6 in March, I thought this wouldn't be such a bad idea. Anyways, it will be my first street bike. I used to ride dirt bikes a lot. I'm hoping to find a bike for around 4500-5000. So far, I've seen 00's in that price range. Umm..I just wanted to say hey to everybody cause I'm new. Also, what are any suggestions about getting my first bike? Thanks

hey man im new to the whole bike community as well. I started off with my 05 r6 and I am loving it so far. I really havent put it to the test for the whole break in period/inexperience. But I can tell it hauls ass without even having to punch it too hard.

Way different from dirt bikes, and I mean that in the upmost positive sense :)

welcome networxk!

I'm loving also my '05 R6 too, as Aurelius has proclaimed. Too bad the weather is way too crappy here. Now she's locked up and stored away for hibernation hahaha

As for insurance. It depends on your age, driving record and location. Like cars. I heard StateFarm and USAA is good and yet I heard Progressive is good. Just make calls and get some quotes. Liability coverage is a must have, but you may be interested in getting Comprehensive as well. I'd go for a full coverage on a part-time year basis since I don't ride on the winter season. Why pay an extra 3 months when the weather gets awful.

Hope that helps! And enjoy your stay on this forum. The people here are really cool. Helpful and full of wisdom.

I am not riding mine a whole lot either since it is winter, but I am stationed in San diego so on the weekends I take it out. But as of now I only pay liability. I am 20 yrs old and it cost me 225 for a whole year. I had to get that whole year before i left the lot.

when i was still making payments on my bike and had full coverage mine was almost $400 a month for a 20 year old with one careless driving ticket. now that i can put liability its like $360 a year through progressive.

BTW welcome to the site Net.

Thanks for the info guys. So, buying a used bike, you only need liability right? What would be an estimated cost for full coverage on an 00 r6 for a 20 year old clean record? Thanks

im pretty sure even if its used as along as u get a lone u have to have full coverage. and its not going to be cheap jest because of your age even if your record is clean.

I'm thinkin about buying the bike with cash. That way, I only need liability right? I also had a question about jackets? What are good brands. I was thinkin joe rocket maybe. Any other quality brands? I want something that will protect me. Thanks

Needing liabilityand cost are going to be determined by where you are. Some states require more minimum coverage than others.
If you have another vehicle as well as your bike, you should check out state farm. They give incredible rates with a multi policy, but if you have ANY infractions (i.e. tickets, accidents, etc) they won't touch you. State farm is great because they don't consider an R6 hyper performance. They go by displacement alone. So if you ride a goldwing 18x you'll pay more insurance than on a gsxr 1000. pretty sweet.

i had the option to only get liablity when buying my 05 r6 here in san diego... I dont know where you live but it might be a possibility.
