Just had a weekend with team promotion at CMP. My bike is stock with the exception of a Micron High mount. Unfortunately on day 2 (Sunday) I dumped it twice (Low sided). My tire pressure was good and the tires had plenty of warm up time. I am suspecting that the stock tire has had it. I have done 5 track days and approx. 25-30 sessions on them. I do not do any street riding so the track was all the tires had seen. Not much track experience I know but I thought because I saw plenty of tread that the tire was fine. I had taken corners harder on previous track days and the bike was awesome.
A few questions for anybody with experience:
1. Do you think that the stock tires were all used up on the track after 25-30 sessions.
2. I am not going to the track without race/street tires again and was thinking about the Pirelli Corsa's
3. This was my first day with the high mount and of all the magazines and forums that I have read I have never read how a high mount hinders your footing on the track due to my big feet. I have to keep my heel inside of the pipe and this jams against the swingarm while the suspension is varying. I want to keep the canister but lose the high mount mid pipe - Any idea how to do this for cheap. ( I think Micron want $150 for just this piece)
Thanks for any help
p.s. - Thanks to the frame sliders the bike had barely any damage. Bought the cheapest ones I found for $25 on E-Bay and except for getting ground down some they completely saved the bike.

Okay, you didn't say what type of tires you were running so I'll give you a couple of theories. First up, how was CMP I didn't get a chance to go this year but with team pro it's always good times.

With tires for the future, I used to run Michelin Piolt Sports. They give huge amounts of stick and confidence over the dunlops that came stock. Now I run Metzler Rennsports which are the same as the Pirelli supercorsa. Holy sh@t these things are freaking amazing. They are okay on the street, but get the hot at the track and pass everybody.

Back to the lowside :( . At the track what group you ride in is going to determine tire longevity. If you're in the white group you can run tires until all the tread is gone, you will just wear through them. In the red group, your tires will be toast long before the tread is gone. You will use the "life" of the tire before all the rubber is gone and this can take generally 3 track days. If you ride blue/black will you can make a tire toast in 1 session. And if you're in that group I'd expect you to understand why your Duhamel ass is smoking tires.

On my michelins, the morning of the first day and the afternoon of day 4 would be bad. In between and those tires where on fire. I've noticed the same with the pirelli's, heat cycles 5-15 and great. 15-25 watch out, 25+ new tires. You'll notice that they just don't feel "planted" going into a corner. Maybe squirm a bit come out of corners. If you ever been to Summit Point, as the tires fade you should get some squirm going up the hill from turn 2 at your shift point. You can also smoke just a portion of the tire.

Example, at summit which just destroys the right side, I would use up the right side of the tire. I could go to beaverun which isn't as hard on the shoulders and still have life in the tire. But back at summit I'd lite up in turn 1 and turn 9 when I'd be hard over on the right side.

This is why at track days you'll see "race take-offs" for sale. Guys ran them at a race and are no longer competitive, but they have some life left for somebody else who isn't running at race speed, would like to have super sticky tires, but can't drop $450 on a set of tires that they will destroy in a day.

So long story short, if you were running the dunlops...they're crap and thats why your tires failed. If you had better tires... you ran all the life out of them before the tread was used (commonplace at the track).

If you want better tires and were thinking of the Corsa, they are good tires. But they are more street oriented nad less track design.. like 70/30 street/track. The supercorsa/rennsports/michelin h2 race are 30/70 street/track. A little pricier and last less but WELL worth it if you running fast in the red or higher. White group, tires will help but spend the extra $100 on another track day for the experience.

Before you pay for the different mid pipe, answer this. Are you still running stock pegs? If no, buy the mid pipe. If yes, consider getting a different set of pegs. If you look at these rearsets you'll see the peg is a round tube that is knarled all th way around. So you can have your foot at a diferent angle and still hold the peg.https://www.shopphilly.com/promotionpartsclub/media/rearsets/rearsets.jpg

Fierohink, Thanks for the reply man. This is not the first time that you helped me out. The whole saw for the fairing was my question as well and that worked out great. Saved a lot of damage on my bike as well - so thanks again. CMP was awesome except for the fact of wrecking twice. I think that I may go with the Pirelli diablo's that pro motion is pushing. They are more oriented for the track arent they? I think that I will get the mid pipe for my exhaust. Any gouge on where the best place to get this may be? I had pro motion tune my suspension in while I was there and the front is good now but the rear is at its limit for my weight. Doubt I will drop a cool grand on a new one though.
As for my riding style - I am in the white group but tend to be one of the harder riding ones in there - That is up until the point of dumping it than I stayed spooked the rest of the afternoon. When I did wreck they had combined the red and white group since we didnt have many there on Sunday. Things were great and got to see how you measure up to the Red group riders. While my Tire was holding I was keeping up with all and not feeling like I was exceeding my limits of experience. Kind of sucks that I had to end the season on a bad note and wont know until March how the new tires will be. Thanks for the advice man and hope to get to meet you at one of these events. I ride with 3 other marines from Cherry Point NC. Thanks again - and please pass any other "know how's" concerning the track that may be helpful.

I have a set of Michelin Pilot Race - front is brand new, never mounted, rear has minimal wear in the center from 50 miles of highway. Will sell rear for $75, or both for $225
