What year bike do you have hcvsi1124?
You should'nt need a power commander if you just get a slip on.
If your bike is fuel injected then you should remap if you get a full system 8)

Like yami said if u get a slip on you won't have to do anything, but if it is full exhaust you will need to do some other stuff.

do 2003 slip on's fit 2004. in other words "are exhaust pipes for 2003 the same for 2004?" I want to put a new pipe on and am unsure if some of the slip on ones i'm looking at that say for 03 will fit my 04.

Even though you don't need it a PC is a good idea. The bike runs lean from the factory to meet emmissions and you are just making it leaner with the slip on. True you don't NEED it with a slip on. The better thing to do is to alter the factory map on the factory computer...you don't get the adjustability of the PC but it's better than doing nothing...here's the link: http://r6messagenet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15407

What is the best aftermarket exhaust to put on my 04 r6? Also what is the power gain when adding that and a PC :?:

Best is subjective, with an exhaust you have these things that you should consider:

Power
Sound
Looks
Build Quality
Fit and Finish
Ease of installation
Price
Longevity
Company Reputation

You place those items in the order that is the most important to you and some people can start offering suggestions.

in the new edition of sport rider they tested alot of pipes on th 04 r6 and they all made damn near the same 108hp give or take a few tenths. Micron made the most w/a whopping 109hp so take into consideration all the things dyezak said and it woulden't hurt to pick up the new sportrider

When he said aftermarket exhaust I assumed "FULL exhaust" is what he ment and not "Slipon". If slipon is what you want forget about power...they all make roughly the same....full exhaust's will vary as much as 6hp.

I recommend Micron.
Suzuki uses Yoshimura to make lots of power.
Kawi uses Muzzy as their primary pipe.
Honda uses Jardine (at least when they raced the RC51)

Yamahas work really well with Micron pipes. Check out what most people run at a track day or Isle of Mann TT.

If you plan on keeping the bike and you want an exhaust for more reasons than just to sound better, then get a full exhaust. It's pricey up front, but it's way easier to get the set. Instead of buying a can now and having to contact the manufacturer to get an up-pipe and manifold to match you can. Slipons are designed to meet the stock pipe. Full systems are designed to give more power and save weight. Which may mean different routing than stock. So a slipon might not be retrofittable latter to a full system=wasted money.
Also you won't be disappointed with the micron.
