: '05 on the street
Kasper 11-13-2004, 03:30 PM Just picked up my 2005 R6 today! Yes...they have arrived in Dallas. Lovin it already!!
I do have a question that Im sure someone can answer. The sales guy said to break it in stock. He said not to do my exhaust until the 500 mile break in. Anyone else agree?
Im looking at Micron or Two Bros for slip ons. Im assuming that the '04 parts will fit the '05's. Is that a safe assumption?
I picked up an 04 R6 in July and I put the Yoshi pipe on at 200 mikes, actually the dealer put the pipe on and nerver said a word. I changes to Mobil 1 for sprt bikes at 600 miles. I did not do the 600 mile service because I put 600 miles on the thing between July and September and decided to wait and have it done in the spring before the 05 riding season. I live in Illinois and the weather has gone to hell already.
NTFireFighter 11-15-2004, 06:19 AM you should wait to put stuff on it before adding upgrades.....they say 600 miles, but it really takes a good 1000 miles to break in your bike, even yamaha says 1000 miles for full break in. This allows the motor to break in with orig settings, fuel maps, exhaust pressure and temps. then you add onto the bike.
As far as exhausts, I prefer the sound of twobrothers, just sounds more throaty too me, but thats my oninion.....there is a link here as a sticky somewhere at the top of one of these sections, that has a whole list of exhausts and sounds you can listen for yourself. And from what I understand all the parts are just about the same for the exhaust....but call the yamaha dealer and ask them directly if they are the same size....if they arent that busy and dont know....go to yamaha-motor.com and look under for parts listings...check the years, and see of the exhaust is the same part number
fierohink 11-15-2004, 10:46 PM I'm partial to the Micron exhausts. They work really well with yamaha motors.
As far as the break-in and when to start putting aftermarket parts on again I have a seperate philosophy. I race bikes. It's not uncommon for a racer to build a brand new engine/bike and the first time he rides it is for a race. Check out this page,http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm. It explains the fundamentals of what is being done during break-in. This is what I do. This is what I did on my r6, and 22k miles later stills runs like a r@ped date. I've done this on cars I autocrossed namely an audi A4 and a honda CRX. Made lots of power and never had a problem with motor parts.
For your exhaust, if you have the money to buy it. Buy it and put it on.
And if you think motoman is nuts check this page:http://www.ntnoa.org/enginebreakin.htm
04yzf 11-16-2004, 05:04 PM no doubt that break in is important though man id keep it stock for 600 miles...
guest 11-23-2004, 10:57 AM Just curious about the 2005 R6 purchase from a Yamaha dealer. Were you able to haggle on the price or was it locked onto the msrp? And were there other fees added on the purchase price? I've seen the 2005's over here but the color i wanted wasn't available. Just curious cuz i'm close into deciding to get my very own R6. and I wanted to know what are the hidden costs other than the local sales tax. Also did you finance it through Yamaha and did you have to get insurance? Thanks for your response.
Kasper 11-23-2004, 12:14 PM Paid sticker price. No room to bargain this early in the model year. Freight was 150, Assembly/Prep/Inspection was 90. Lic/Registration was 69 in my State, an Inventory tax of 22 and document fee of 50. Then there is your sales tax rate, whatever that is where you are. I used Yamaha financing. Excellent rates right now. Insurance by Progressive.
Got a 10% discount on gear (big deal huh). I doubt you can haggle price. But the freight and prep fees you might. Some dealers over charge on stuff like that. But at the most you might save a hundred or so.
I was on a list and got the first bike they had. And paid the price.
Aurelius 11-25-2004, 07:42 PM yeha i just picked up an 05 my self here in san diego, and I couldnt bargain what so ever. The dealer only had 4 05 r6's and only one of the blue ones I wanted. So I said screw it and had it delivered the next day.
I took advantage of the 39.99 a mo at 3.9 intrest for 24 mo deal they are having right now.
Ill pick up E-5 in march and start making bigger payments on it and pay it off in around 2 years.
roninone 11-25-2004, 09:03 PM Sweet! Hey Congrats to you both Kasper and Aurelius for the 2005's! How are ya both R6's doing? Did any mods yet for them? I've already placed an order for the black one. Can't wait for it to come in. :D
I live in panama city fl, and have been waiting for like 2 months and my 05 still hasnt came in. My local reps told me nobody had them but apparently some dealers do. I really want the new r6 but i dont want to wait forever.
Kasper 11-26-2004, 12:08 AM Hey thanks Ronin. I absolutely love it. Its my first street bike and I am having a blast. I love seeing people's heads turn as I go by. I still have a great respect for the power! Its a MONSTER in the high RPM's...WOW.
Only mods so far is a Two Brother's slip on which sounds excellent. An undertail/eliminator is on the way too.
Do you guys recommend steering dampers? My salesman said "Its not needed on a 600". Im not even sure what exactly they do.
roninone 11-26-2004, 12:41 AM :D Can't wait to get mine.
I'm thinking of getting the Micron exhaust. It sounds really loud on my friend's 03 R6 special edition.
As for steering dampeners? Hmmm.. I figure that it may be more useful for track courses, rather than normal street riding. Local streets aren't too perfect but then again it may be beneficial since some bikes come in stock like the Gixxers.
Aurelius 11-26-2004, 02:32 AM thx ron. Yeah I love it man, and like kasper this is my first bike as well. I havent done any mods yet, and I dont think i will until i hit 600-1000 miles on it. I talked to the dealer about a slip on the day i bought it but even he recommended I do it after I break her in a little.
Man one of my favorite things i like about the whole street bike community is the "bike wave" I am stationed in san diego right now and every single person on a bike that i make eye contact with gives the wave. so satisfying. All thought I kinda feel like the wave is a congrats on not dying yet cause drivers in CA suck...
roninone 11-27-2004, 06:18 PM hahaha  Aurelius, you say driver in CA suck? hahaha I say, yeah tell me about it since most of them CA drivers came up here in WA state. And now I'm facing the danger of CA drivers hahahaha. :D
Bikers do that wave here too. I like the brotherhood and sisterhood of bikers as well. Ride safe dude! Hey did you get any security for your new pup?
Stationed in the Naval base down in San Diego?
yeah man i am stationed here at 32nd St. in san diego. I just came from the USS Sacramento in Bremerton WA. Drivers up there arent as near as bad as in CA. Right now I am home on leave in Arizona and damn they have nice roads that I look forward to hitting when i get my r6 down here.
