: R6 Question....
Well, I have been riding a '01 Suzuki GS500 for some time now. And I'm longing more power, control, and a overall better bike. I had a chance to look and ride my buddies '04 R6, and man, it is a beautiful bike....I cannot say anything negative about it. I was just wondering considering my riding background on the GS if I would be a good idea to move up to an R6? I'm a safe rider, never push the bike farther than i can handle it, and I practice every aspect of riding I can in my spare time (parking lot rides are fun :) ). So I guess what im asking is, any tips that you current R6 owners can give? Thanks ahead of time!
-Dan
BTW i should note my current considerations for a new bike. Its either going to be a GSX-R 600, a SV650S, or a Yamaha R6 (man this was fun to ride).
Sprokkett 11-01-2004, 03:19 PM Dan,
I can only speak from experience. I have been riding for about 2 months now. I can tell you the answers to "longing more power, control, and a overall better bike", the R6 is definitely the answer to all three.
My first bike was a Honda CBR F4i '04. I was riding that until it got stolen. If you are looking for an overall bike with a more comfortable seat, that would be the bike. If you are looking for more spunk in power and agility, then go with the R6. Going from the Honda to the Yamaha was only 20 lbs difference, but the weight distribution was definitely noticeable.
Hope that helps? How much are you looking to spend?

Thanks man, I was hoping to catch one in the 4-5k range, preferably newer, like an '03 or so. But god was it fun to ride.
Sprokkett 11-01-2004, 03:33 PM Well guest, do you have a name? :)
Where you from? I have a '04 R6 with a little over 600 miles. I live in NJ.
I may be willing to part with my R6 come December. I am always looking into the '05 bikes.
I still miss my Honda... Damn theives! The cops will probably call me in a year and said they found the bike. It will probably just have a frame! LOL...
Let me know.
yea, my name is Dan, im in Cali though :(. I'm gonna put the GS up for sale late next month, and from there go about buyin my new bike.
Sprokkett 11-01-2004, 03:58 PM Well, good luck to you!
hcvsi1124 11-02-2004, 12:17 AM if you've been riding the 500 for a while already you shouldnt have a problem adjusting to the r6, cuz when i got my 04 r6 that was the first time ive ever been on a bike and i got used to it in a short period of time, but i crashed it not too long ago, thinking about the 05 raven r1, good luck to you on finding a bike
phat_r6 11-02-2004, 05:20 PM i think as for the overall as for the bikes you have listed it would definetly be the r6. i dont know as for your price range though for an 03 or newer in good shape. but i bet if you look hard enough you will find one.

Traverser 11-03-2004, 02:47 PM I know most will agree and also disagree with me but her I go. I would go for the R6 over the GSX-R. Yamaha's feel so much lighter. Now to the SV..
I'm pretty fast on my R6 but I sure someone can bet me on a SV. I rode a 2002 SV not the s model, and I had a blast. It didn't seem as fast but felt almost as light. I don't think you could go wrong either way. Enjoy!!
CrayonEater 11-04-2004, 09:36 AM I would go with the R6. I have a slight feeling that most of the people here will tell you that. I was also looking at the SV or R6 for my first bike and rode both. The R6 was just more comfortable for me and I felt I had more control with it. The SV was more of a, if I can't afford an R6, I'll get that. Figured if it went down I didn't have to replace the fairings and all that plastic. The SV's are keeping up with everything else on the track though and they do have a loyal following. I've had an '04 R6 since May and haven't looked back.
CrayonEater 11-04-2004, 09:39 AM hcvsi1124, just for curiosity's sake, how did you crash your 6? It was your first bike and you wrecked it.....and now you're going bigger in '05?????
SilverSurfer 11-17-2004, 09:45 PM I used to own a Ninja 250R and the transition to the R6 was not as bad as I thought --- however, I cannot crack the throttle all the way unlike the 250. In time, I'll be able to see what is beyond 7000 rpm.
The R6 is a true racing bike. Between the Gixxer and the R6 ... it is a matter of opinion and taste. Both these bikes are for the most part equals. The SV is a slightly different bike. A bit more upright, more comfortable and will do better for long rides.
From what I have read, it is a pretty "fun" bike in its own right. It will boil down to the kind of riding that you will do. In all honesty, you cannot go wrong with any of your choices.
Good luck.
ChkUR6 11-18-2004, 12:02 PM I can speak on the R6 and the GSXR. I have an 04 R6 and my buddy has a gixxer 600 and we have ridden each others bikes quite a bit. Both bikes are par as far as power and acceleration. Very close in weight too but the R6 feels much lighter. The R6 will lean better in turns too. The first time I let him ride my 6 he loved it. This is a die-hard gixxer guy too. When he got back on his bike he said it turned like an old caddy compared to mine. On the other hand the gixxer has a damper which is nice to have sometimes. Over all they are close but the R6 is one sexy bitch.
Cooper29 11-18-2004, 03:48 PM Dan, considering you have had the GS500 and have what sounds like good riding experience on it, I think any of those bikes you mentioned would be fine. With your riding ability it is not like any of these bikes are going to toss you if you respect them properly. For the money, the SV650S is really hard to beat, and SV's are great all around bikes. I have owned Suzuki's, Kaw's, and Yamaha's....and I like Yamaha the best. I will say this though, my R6 is my first 600 in several years, (I have had several litre bikes), and so far the only time I have been disappointed on my R6 is when I get on the freeway......it won't go over 153 mph. The good news is that I don't go that fast too often so it is ok. Good luck man.
