Okay, probably a stupid question and some laziness on my part, but what is the diffence between race and street exhaust - beside the obvious? Can you use a "race" exhaust on the street, is it street legal? Is it the baffles and noise? I'm looking and there is really no price difference between the two. Just wondering if race is street legal I guess?

No. Race Exhaust is not street legal. They even stamp on the end cap "Not For Street Use".

But then again my stainless brake lines said the same thing. And my Carbon brake pads. And my solid foot pegs. And my rear sets. And my clip-ons. Get the picture.

The main reason behind "Not For Street Use" is the manufacturer hasn't paid to get the product liscensed and approved for public use. Product liabilitys a bitch now a days. So if it's labeled that way and you ball up your bike in some canyon because your foot peg dragged and instead of folding up it pivoted and high-sided you... then you can't come after the foot peg people for damages. You were in the wrong for using their product on the street.

Long story short, buy the race pipe. It's louder but you'll get more performance gains. Besides if you wanted a quiet bike you'd leave it stock

Hey, thanks man. I appreciate it. Yeah, gotta go race then. How do you like your micron?

It's sweet. The only problem with micron is you have to stay on top of repacking it otherwise it sounds like ass. Usually every 1-3 seasons. I do mine every year becasue I burn it out at the track.

Since we are talking about exhausts, does one really need to buy a $300 + slip on just to make it sound louder?

Is there a way I can modify the stock exhaust? Not that I would know how.. But, I would like to make the bike sound a bit louder for safety reasons. I don't really need more HP.

Any suggestions?

In addition, next season I would like to go to the track for the first time. I suppose, since I live in NJ, the closest one would be Poconos or Beaver Run? Those are the only ones that I know.

How do I start? Is there a good website that has a novice course that I can register?

Thanks.

Great to see a new track rider. If your in NJ you'll definately want to hook up with www.teampromotion.com. They're based out of Philly. They are also sisters with www.sportbiketracktime.com. Anyway, Team Pro goes to Pocono's Beaverun, Summit Point :D , VIR  , you name it in the east. It's run by this guy Glen Goldman. He's super nice and the parts shop is run by Linda Rabb, again super nice people. After a track day or two your a member of the family. I'll put it this way. I was having trouble with some headshake hard on the gas at beaverun last track day a ran. Glen normally charges to setup suspensions, but I just needed some pointers so we traded his brain for some cheese burgers I made on my grill I brought and everyone was happy.
