Hey People, I just bought myself a 99 R6. I know this sounds like a stupid question, but should the speedo have a backlight, if so does anyone know how to change it?

Yeah it should have a backlight. If it's out you can pull the speedo apart and replace it.
Downside to opening the speddo is you have to strip the front end to get to it. Take off the upper and the headlight to get to the back of the speedo so you can unscrew it from the upper bracket. Once free there are 3 screws in the back that hold the front to the back. Open her up and replace the little lite, I think it's a 192.

If you are going that far to take that entire assembly apart consitter replacing regular bulbs with LED's they are brighter, last much much longer, just gotta wire it right, i think you need to use a certian level resistor on one side....electrical isnt exactly my specialty, i can hide wires like they are my job but making custom stuff like that i usally get some help from someone better in that field

Its really no big deal to pull the upper. I mean you've got five maybe ten minutes to get the fairing off, another three to five for the headlight assembly, and bam you've got the speedo in your lap.
