I have stock tires on my 04 R6 and I wanna see what people recomend to move to, bigger or smaller and whatnot. also what tires are working for everyone and really what the best are...i am not one to go cheap on what keeps me on the rd. also what is the expected life expectancy of stock tires or really any tire in general for a bike

I run Michelin Pilot Sports on the road. I get probably 4k on a rear and 7-8k on a front. Michelin is doing away with the Pilot sport and replacing it with the Pilot Power. I have not ridden one yet so no comment.
Pilots work like this, when I had dunlop D207s which came stock I thought they were the tits. Until somebody told me to try the michs. Those f'n things were like riding on railroad tracks. You may think the r6 makes you feel like superman, with pilots you ARE superman. Brake harder, corner faster, you name it. They amplify the r6 attitude of RIDE ME HARDER, I LIKE IT.
I've been told the Pirelli Corsa's are good tires. I run the Super Corsa on the track. These things are AMAZING. They stick so much I've had to adjust my suspension to fight chasis flex. Problem with track tires is they're good for maybe 3-4 track days and maybe 1-2k miles on the street. These things are soft.

I forgot prices....
Pilots ran like $120 front, $160 rear. I stick with stock sizes. Yamaha spent lots of R&D dollars to make them work.
Pirelli's...Corsa's you're looking at the same price, Super Corsa's/Metzler Rennsports(Pirelli bought Metzler so these are the same tire) run $150 front and $200 for a rear give or take.
Pirelli's I get from www.teampromotion.com
Michelin schwag I get from Smith's Power Sports 724-899-3375. He can drop ship directly to you.

Just got (today) a pair of Michelin Pilot Powers on my 04 r6 (kept the 60 profile front). and what a difference they make. Ive only dun about 50 miles on them so far just to scrubb them in, but the grip level is amazing, ive been to both edges of the tyres already without a hint of slipping. 8) Its not been that warm here in the UK (about +19C ) so a typical autumn day.
My next challenge is to see if i can get more than 500miles out of them :D

i usually run avon's. i know that they are not the biggest name brand, but they seem to hold up well, and they grip nice. as for the size and that stuff i am not sure.

I've stuck with Dunlop 208s. They're slightly down the range than the ones that come factory fitted but they are cheaper. I pay £110 for a rear fitted to a loose wheel and £100 for a front fitted to the bike. I ride to work every day go through a rear in about 2,500 miles and a front in about 4,000 miles.
I haven't tried any other brands yet but I've never felt like the bike is going to slip in dry UK weather. Maybe I'm just a wuss and these other chaps are pushing much harder.
One thing about the Dunlops, they do seem to harden if the bike's not garaged.
