It's been a while since I've had a bike and just starting to get back into it. Any thoughts on what I should attack first? ('04 r6)

remove that big ass fender on the back, either buy or make yourself a eliminater kit, I made mine, i put some smaller signals on the back also, will make the bike look 1000 times better, hop on some other sites that have pics of bikes and you will see what I mean.

Ofter those little appearance mods the first and most common performance mod would be to pipe the baby.

Thanks, saw some on thr r6-rider forum. Huge difference for such a simple fix. wonder why they don't "eliminate" them on the assembly line? I guess they couldn't sell those kits then...

After all that I would invest in a steering damper :P

A damper really is ant worth it just for the street. If u take it to the track all the time Its a must though.

I STRONGLY disagree about the dampner. It was the FIRST thing I put on mine. I use Scotts because they install fast and can swap from bike to bike with only the purchase of a mounting kit.

They will save your arse and you won't even know its doing its job. Come rolling over a crest in the road a little too fast and float the front end. Let it come down to a eye popping tank slapper. Then, tell me a dampner isnt worth it. You can easily float the front under power and dont have to be going insanely fast to do so.

If you wheelie or trick ride at all, its a no brainer. if you occasionally ride hard, its a no brainer. But yea, if you squid around town or are a poser, the you can probablly live without it. They just make sportbikes handle better on rough pavement transitions and in certain situations.

I too say the dampener is good for the street....especially on bumpy rough roads. The R6 will power wheelie in 1st gear stock and that can cause some headshake...the dampener will fix that.

A trick Scott rotary damper is nice, but if you lose it on a wet tar snake or something equally as bone headed that we've all done at some point, and have rashed up fairings. Which is better.
I highly recommend kneedraggers.com they have a huge selection of crash protection parts.
Also before you hop the bike up a whole bunch just ride it. Get used to what you have, it'll make perfomance improvements all the sweeter.
