Anybody have thoughts on the best way to keep your bike secure when you go out?
I'm a little paranoid since my last bike ('94 FZR) was stolen in broad daylight with alarm, disc lock and chain.

If you had all that on there and it still got stolen, I'd just make sure you have good theft insurance, if they want it they will get it, I know it sucks to hear that but it's true.
:D I had a student friend who got hold of a joke 'vomit' .
It was about 18 inches long and 12 inches wide and looked like a top quality hurl. The 'bits' were connected by thin threads and when laid over the seat and tank it looked super real.
Funnily enough nobody ever touched his bike...

Does anyone have thoughts on chains? I saw the Kryptonite "Fahghettaboudit"; but it seems a bit heavy to be lugging around.

LOL :D I think it'd be even more useful on some of my friends' bikes

I keep two brake disc locks in my tail section. They clamp on the brake discs and essentially keep the bike from rolling. I put one in the front and one in the back. No way to get them off without the key or destroying a rotor.

These are the ones I run. They are 58-67 bucks each. I am sure just one on either end would be fine, but I went overboard and got one for each end cause they are not too bid to pack.

The best way would be to put an "I" bolt in the concrete where you park, then chane the frame to the I bolt....it won't go anywhere.

that would be workable on private property... but i work at the airport here.. i have a feeling operations wouldnt look to keen towards my installing a bolt into their pavement and making my own personal parking space hehe.

Having had my GSXR 1000 stolen 2 weeks I can tell you that disc locks really dont mean squat to 4 guys and a pickup truck, they just pick it up and set in the bed and drive off, make sure your alarm/battery isnt accessible, actually it is easy to access your battery in less than 1 minute without setting off the alarm so any way you look at it your screwed if they really want it unless it has a huge chain and lock that cant be cut with the biggest bolt cutters and attached to a pole or something that is a permanent fixture, so in all actuality at some point your vulnerable to theft so have great ins. and park in the most visible and traffic associated places as possible,..............OLD-PRO

I guess you'll have to know your environment well. I agree with Old-pro. Parking it in the most visible and traffic associated places is the key.
Just curious though what type of locks out there are tough enough. I know securing it to the ground onto a permanent fixture is also a key into securing the bike.
If your'e with some biker friends, and can't find a secure anchor to tie the bike down. I heard that securing more bikes into a chain can be good hehehe... just the thought of it sounds intimidating. And I really like that fake vomit "security". I have to find one of those that's super chunky and disgusting. hehehehe
Wouldn't be also neat if their were ignition kill chips installed in the key and bike? Like in cars? Or having the keys very uniquely designed that you'll have to contact Yamaha for a replacement and having that your key registered to yourself.
 Here's a thought for the ultimate security. Although it can be bad to actually do. Having a self destruct device with a radio trigger. It serves them thieves to not mess around and steal other people's possessions.  But I guess the safe way would be theft insurance.... Although I can't imagine the increase on the insurance... yikes!
