: Price check on New R6s (CALIFORNIA)
tli2001 09-27-2004, 05:13 PM Hello, I am finally ready to get an R6, so I'd like to know what amount of damage this'll do to my bank account.
Anyone in California, can you let me know what you paid for your new R6 out the door? Is it cheaper to buy in Northern California than Southern?
By the way, I'm looking to get a 2005 "Raven" colored one. Thanks in advance!
chr6is 09-27-2004, 05:30 PM I dont think there is a real difference in price as far as northern and southern, the set MSRP is $8,399 ~ $8,499. I dont think there will be much of a difference. Out the door with insurance, depending on your record, your probably looking at around 10g or more? GO TO THE DEALERSHIP.
tli2001 09-27-2004, 05:51 PM Insurance from the dealership? Is that necessary? Can't I just tack it on to my existing insurance from my other bike? I've already gone to the dealerships, but they can't give me an exact price yet, it's still too early.
Every bike I've ever purchased has been used (and under 4K) from another person. This will be the first time that I'll be purchasing a brand new bike from a dealer and I'm also trying to get a feel for what a good deal will look like. I need advice on whether or not to take the extended warranty and other haggling tips.
I've heard that dealers buy their bikes from Yamaha at about $1000 under MSRP. I see that the 05 R6 is listed $8499 MSRP so I'm assuming the dealer is buying them for around $7500. What is a good "out the door" price I should be looking for? I walked into my local dealer last week and he said the bike would cost around $9400-$9600 after Tax, Tag, Title and Extended Warranty.
A friend pointed me to http://www.layamaha.com/Yamahamc.htm
Apparantly these guys are so close to the port that they don't have much of a shipping cost when they take delivery of their bikes. They supposedly can pass on these savings and quote their out the door prices right at MSRP and that is with Tax, Tag and Title included! I tried to call but they won't be giving quotes until the bike is released in early November.
My buddy said that when he bought his CBR600RR , he got an official quote from LA Cyclesports and then used it to haggle with the local Honda dealer. He said he only had to pay $150 over what he would have paid for it from LA.
Can anyone give me some input on this?
slipspeed 09-27-2004, 07:17 PM I forgot to sign in last post...my bad. I also remember the dealer quoting the extended warranty for $600! LA Cycle offers it for $490! Am I missing something or is this a rip-off?
NTFireFighter 09-27-2004, 09:07 PM my R6 for 04 was 7700 + 560 for taxes, title, reg...insurance is about 500 a yr on it totaling almost 8700 total up front brand new and all taken care of... i Live in Ct, and i bought it in NY
flamedR6 09-28-2004, 03:00 AM my advice: call as many dealers as possible and find a price then go back with your price. If they say 8500 out the door say 8000. it simple and it works. trust me.
tli2001 09-28-2004, 03:54 AM NTFireFighter - Wow, 7700 + 560 taxes... I doubt I'd get a deal like that out here in CA, especially with the 05 models. When did you get your 04? Also, does your insurance cover theft?
flamedR6 - You sure that will work, especially with 05 models? I just have the feeling that since it's the new model, I won't be able to haggle as much. Of course I'll still give it a shot though.
So what kind of price do you think would be reasonable? Would I be able to get it for near $8,500, or would it be more near $9,000 or even higher? Maybe someone who purchased an 04 around the end of 03 would be able to help with this.
NTFireFighter 09-28-2004, 06:39 AM I just bought my 04 R6 in the end of July....basically you gotta hagle them a little, price shop a few dealerships, and just keep going with it. One will lower it to beat another, keep going back and forth until no one wants to go lower....when i was done 7700 was the final price for the bike and they gave me a yamaha team racing jacket and an xspeed helemt for free....only took about 10 days of price shopping 4 dealerships....the winter is generally slow for most dealerships except where is snows, they sell snow mobiles and quads....so if you go in looking for a street bike, they want to start moving them to keep business alive and moving..best of luck to ya
its all about dealing my friend. retail for my bike is 8100 and i got it for 8200 out the door. they wanted me to pay 9000.
flamed r6
NTFireFighter 09-28-2004, 03:06 PM haha the sticker on mine was 9000....cuase where they sell them is just outside the hamptons in ny... but know the right people, use some references and price bidding and whatnot you can get what you want
fierohink 09-28-2004, 11:51 PM I paid 8013.93 tax, tags, and everything in PA. The trick I used and have passed on to others is go out of the city. I live in Pittsburgh, and most of the dealerships know each other and they're prices. I went way out in the sticks to this "Full Service Dealership". They mostly sell dirtbikes but in order to be full service they have to sell there minimum quota of street stuff. So they pretty much sell street bikes at what they have in them. On my reciept it has the bike sold at 7399.00 which was UNDER MSRP which was 7999 for that year.
In the city the best I was getting was 8500 plus tax/tags. Do your homework.
R6FaN420 09-29-2004, 06:10 PM Damn, fiero, I need to go to that store!

I'll give you an idea of what kind of store the place is. My reciept when I bought the bike was hand written on one of those 3 copy reciept books you buy at Staples (White top copy, yellow middle copy, pink bottom copy)
tli2001 09-30-2004, 09:44 PM Wow fiero, that's a good deal. I wonder if there are any places like that in California though...
Ok guys, now I'm trying to decide between a new 05 R6 (black) or a used 03 R6 (black with flames).
The used R6 has 2300 miles, no performance mods, slight aesthetic mods, and has been dropped from a standstill but has had all damaged parts replaced. So KBB priced it at 6400 retail, 4420 trade in, so private sale value should be around 5410.
If I get it around this price, I'm saving ~3000. Now my question is: What is the difference between 03 and 05 models? Are the new changes worth it? Let me know what you guys think, thanks!
R6FaN420 10-01-2004, 04:28 PM Hah! fiero, what time of year did you buy it? Winter time? Or, was that just the regular price?
fierohink 10-02-2004, 02:48 AM ...........04/19/02.........
another thing is you have to lie. tell them that someone will give it to you for a certain price, and then say "hey what can you do?" and if they match it tell them to throw in a helmet.
flamedR6 10-03-2004, 02:18 AM that last reply was mine.
NTFireFighter 10-03-2004, 12:57 PM If you can get that used bike for about 5000 it would be worth it, but be ready to pay 6000 for it...you gotta ask youself do you want to buy a new bike and break it in right yourself, or trust that the other person did it right.
New for 2004:
Remapped fuel injection for improved response throughout the powerband.
Larger volume exhaust canister for improved exhaust flow at high rpm.
New-design 120/60-ZR17 front and 180/55-ZR17 rear Dunlop radial tires deliver excellent grip.
New for 2005
Engine upgrades in the form of 40mm throttle bodies, revised fuel injection and ignition mapping, new camshafts and intake funnels, etc., all result in a 3-horsepower increase at the same rpm as before with more power across the board.
New, fully adjustable inverted fork with 41mm tubes further reinforces R6’s main strength: precise handling. New, cast top triple clamp and forged lower clamp also increase rigidity, and work with revised handlebar positioning.
To complement the new fork, the rear section of the Deltabox III main frame was revised internally to work with revised swingarm linkage and mounts for improved handling.
Lighter, 310mm front brake discs replace 298mm units. New radial-mount four-piston calipers and radial master cylinder provide greater braking power and feel.
120/70-ZR17 front tire replaces previous 120/60-ZR17 for improved handling.
Twin, ring-type radiator fans are now used to ensure optimal engine cooling.
Revised headlight lens and revised under-cowl for even better style.
New Raven color.
There you go, thats what added on from you 03 bike

I was looking at an 04 but it was a demo. I said f that I would rather break it in myself. Just because you get a used bike and it seems right don't make it so. It would take a few years/miles to tell that a bike was not broke in right and by then it is too late. Just my .02
