Just wondering the basic differences between a slip on exhaust vs. a full system. (not taking into consideration the performance aspect of it... as you all know - the R6 is plenty fast

A slip-on is just the can. Changing it will save some weight. Alter the pitch of the exhaust note. Possibly add an HP or two. Mostly show, not a whole lotta go. Also you generally don't need to alter your fueling with a slip on.

A full system, sometimes called a race system, also replaces the exhaust manifold. This will generally net you a 10 pound advantage. Also you get into better porting and flow like the serpent headers made by MICRON that have a dished profile to reduce turbulence in the air flow. A full system will usually bring 5-10 hp's and smooth out any power delivery problems, like that nasty little midrange hole. With the newly freed up motors ability comes the need for more fuel. Uncorking the exhaust lets the leanness of the epa shine through it's true colors. So you'll need a PC, power commander. Or if you stuck in the dark ages, like me, you'll need to jet the carbs.

Another differnece is cost. Slip-ons 200-400 bucks. Full systems 600-1200 or 2200 if you buy an akropovic.
If you don't have anything to do on Monday, 27th come out to BeaverRun and get your fill at the track. Tons of really good guys that you can ask all kinds of questions.

i would but i go to Pitt and have a test tomorrow. But for future reference, do they do that every monday, all day? And are bikes there all the time?

The only problem with a full exhaust espically on the new bikes (03-05 R6) is that its fuel injected, and you will need to allow for more air, and if you want to get the power you are looking for not only will you need to remap the fuel system (power commander mentioned before) but most likely get bigger injectors and fuel lines, and then that leads to a bigger fuel pump. More times than not on the new bikes unless you are ready to dump a lot of money, a slip on is the way to go. If you are looking for performance, just sell the R6 and buy something with a lot more power to start with (New R1 with 180 hp :D ) cause if you look at it, some round numbers here....
New R6 - 8100 w/o tax
Full Exhaust - 1300
Air Intake - 75
Injectors + Fuel pump - 600 (est)
Power Commander - 300
Total without any other upgrades or tax = 10,400.00
Total for New R1, 1000RR and etc - about 12,000

And you get a huge horsepower gain to spend the extra 1500 on a bigger bike, and whatever you spend on the bigger bike will make it just that much faster...just my opinion but going beyond a slip on and power commander on a 600 isnt worth it to me

the best system money can buy...micron set with serpant headers.....i have found that these headers are the best out in the market today. i bought me the set a few weeks ago and will never go back...if your ready to spend a few bucks get it, it will never let you down
