I recently purchased an 03 R6 to start going to the track. I took the bike out stock for my first day and was amazed at how awesome this bike is on the track. I did see 2 bikes go down - one with sliders and one without. The one without was trashed. I just bought sliders for the bike and know that I have to cut the fairing. What tool should I use and how should I do it as to not jack up the plastic and is the hole suppesed to be about 2 inches? Thanks for any help

hey bro the only bike you have to cut into the plastic for frame sliders is 99-02 r-6's. I have a guy io know with an 03 and it mounts directly to the frame no cutting.

Not true. The no cut sliders for the 03 / 04 are total ****. They will break.

Get a good set of sliders. I like the intuatives best. And you will have to cut the right side faring only.

It's super easy once you get over the fact that you are going to drill a big hole in a perfectly good fairing.
1st: Assemble what you need. You should get a whole saw. It's basically a drill bit with a giant serated cup around it (Home Depot or walmart will have a kit for like $10) Also get some silly putty/play-doh/plumber's putty.
2nd:Remove the fairing
3rd:Place a bunch of the putty about where the bolt is in the frame.
4th:Press the fairing back into place. The mounting bolt in the frame will leave a mark in the putty that gives you a reference point to drill you hole so it's right on.
5th:Assemble.

Thanks a million fellas. Will try the puddy and drill method. Any ideas to get the suspension tuned in. I'm 205lbs. Or is the factory set already set in for that weight. Thanks again.

Please remember that these are "FRAME protectors" not fairing protectors. Any damage incurred to the fairing is cheap and cosmetic, whereas the frame is expensive and functional. So sawing a hole through a faring is not a big deal.
