Hi, I'm extremely interested in buying a bike. I have never rode one before, however, the R6 has caught my eye. I read where someone said that it was better to start on a less powerful bike. I also read that the R6 wasn't too great for wheelies, etc. I was wondering how the Suzuki GSX-R was in comparison. And if that is an OK bike to start on.

i rode a gsxr-600 and the gsxr-750. the 600 was an 02 and the 750 was an 04. i liked them both. but personally for the over all bike i think the Yamaha r-6 is a great bike. as for your wheelie's like all bigger bike's the 750 was easy as heck to get the front wheel off of the ground...

Ok, But is the GSX-R Faster than the R6, And what about like the Ninja ZX-10R? And are those bikes OK for a beginner?

the gsx-r is w/in a couple a hp than the r6 nothing u would really notice. the zx-10r is NOT!! for beginners, i work at a bike shop and i see on a weekly basis what a liter bike can do to a squid. especially somone who has never ridden before. take an MSF class and get a license and start small 600cc or smaller. the r6 is a beast it's not a slouch u can't ever loose respect for it, the minute u do u are on the ground. as for wheelies my r6 will lift the front wheel off the ground just as good as anything ive ever ridden, bigger or smaller, it's all about the rider. an experienced rider on a 600 can rape a squid on a 1000 in the corners or on anything for that matter. before u even do anything take a msf corse and get a license.

after that comment u just made take an msf course before u even attempt to purchase anything...and the answer is yes. a squid should never own a liter bike it's just dangerous the zx10r does 110mph in 1st gear. u are not gonna learn proper riding technique because no matter what u are gonna be afraid of it. a liter bike will overpower the tire in a corner and high side u in a heartbeat. last but not least u can **** off on a 600 and have alot more fun than on a liter bike, somthing that fast u can never use ur rpm's or horse power because u are always going way too fast. please man for ur own life dont get anything bigger than a 600. start small then work ur way up. i just had a friend on a 03 yzfr1 break is fibula in a corner whan the rear tire spun he was an experienced rider and just gave it a little too much throttle. if it can happen to him it can happen to somone who is starting w/too much bike.

Ok.
Do you think i should start with an R6? Alot of people say its like really powerful and stuff and that its not good for beginners or wheelies.

And if not, what bike do you suggest?

I would start a an, older bike like a 1995 or so. I am 36 yrs old and have been riding for 20 yrs ,and i am scared of the big bikes, i even took a ama racing, class years ago. I have an 04 r6 with mods and will never be able to ride the bike to its limit. And yes it has lots of power, start small and move up the ladder. By an older bike to learn on and ride it to its limit then move up. Just think the first time you lay your bike down, new plastic for an 04 r6 is about a $1000.00 but plastic for an older bike is $300.00.

no you should start with an old 600, anyhitng that catches you eye, you can buy an 00 - 02 r6 with a bunch of mods allready done to the bike in good shape for like 3-5k perfect for a first time rider, and that why if you do dump it, you wont be as mad that if you spent 9k on a new r6 or 12k on a new r1, find a good used bike with low miles and learn to ride on it. my friend bought a 250 and dumped it the first day he got it, but wasnt mad cuase he is learning how to ride, and only spent like 600 on the bike....and being in the fire dept, i see bike wrecks all summer, the ones that are rider error are either cause they were going too fast and couldnt negotionate a turn, or they were some rook with daddys new 1000 going for a joy ride and find themselfs into someone elses car.....if you really want examples drop me an e-mail at NTFireFighter@yahoo.com and i will be more than willing to tell you some incidents that happen on bikes
