That's probably not a good idea. Most states require that you have a white light to illuminate your tags. On a sportbike you don't need extra to draw attention to yourself from those with the flashlights.
Depending on how much room you have to work with, you might want to check out an auto parts store and get a liscense plate light from there HELP! series of parts.
They have lights that have a spring clasp. You push it through the hole and then it expands once on the otherside. They also are good because they are directional. Half of the lens is covered up and half is open for light, so you point the open side towards the plate and you don't blind everyone behind you. Again avoiding the flashlights.
I tried to find a pic from Advanceautoparts.com but couldn't. I'l repost if I can find something to better explain.

This isn't exactly what I was trying to find, but it should give you the idea.

I would say go to some place like radio shack, and wire in 1 blue or white LED that is more than sufficent, and really inexpensive .... just wire it into a power source like brake lights, thats what is done with mine, if you like pictures i will get you some

Just remember that if you only use 1 LED on the licenseplate light circuit you will need a resistor to properly manage the current flow. Most lightbulbs are rated at 12v and most LEDs are rated at 2v. So you can either use multiple LEDs in series or add a resistor in to keep the LED from burning out.
