i want a safe helmet but i cant afford an 6-8 hundred dollar helmet. what is a good brand that is both Snell and and dot approved, but will fit a poor persons budget?? also i am looking for a relatively comfortable and quiet lid. i know i am asking much but if you know of a good lid with a decent price say 3-4 hundred or less please let me know. also all my riding for the most part is less than 7miles mostly on surface streets so it can be a cool helmet. well enough bs. any help would be great!! thanks

Arai, Shoei, HJC, Bell, Shark - had 'em all and all good lids. spend as much as you can. at the moment I'm riding with an HJC AC-11 which is fairly middle of the range but a good lid none the less.

Ya, HJC makes a good helmet at a decent price. They are Snell and DOT approved

i have to mention this again, as it is in another post, i have an hjc and it is a good lid, but before you buy anything go look at the article on helmets that i believe Cycle World did. they lined up a lot of the name brand helmets and some of the non-name brands, and the results were surprising. the 70 dollar helmet ended up transfering less shock units to the rider, vs the more expensive helmet. just do the research, thats about all i can say. and good luck. keep the rubber side down

By the best you'll be happy when you go down with the best on your head. I have the GP Tech Helmet from AGV. It is so comfortable. Stable in the wind. Easy on the neck. Why buy a 200-300 dollar helmet when you will want a 500 dollar helmet later costing you a total of 800 dollars buy a good one to start out and you will be happy for that.

nice helmet! Also you will probably find some makes might not fit your head. I have a strange shaped melon and don't fit into many. My last few helmets were Suomy, I think the nest one may be a shark.

Scorpian exo 700 is great and comfy!
And they are on sale right now over at SportBikeTrackGear.com....my buddy picked up a really nice one (Matte White with a Scorpion image on the back) for $100 + Shipping.
I have the EXO-1000 and the 700's are lighter and have essentially the same protection just with a few less bells and whistles that the 1000 has.
