That's the biggest question in life. A true test of a mans faith. The answer is only found in your heart.

Oil suggestions are like tires. One brand and circumstance could work for one person and destroy another.

i am going to have to agree with fierohink here. everyone has there preference. personally on the bikes that i have, in the old Norton i use Valvoline Racing straight 50 weight for the winter and 60 weight for the summer. In my r6 i have had excellent success with Royal Purple Cycle Max 10w30 (for winter, i will be trying the thicker stuff in the summer). the bike doesnt smoke, leak, or anything different than normal( and it has not blown up yet according to some theories out there). My belief is that the synthetics, and most high grade oils, are going to be good, but i put in the high end performance oils that i know are tried and true.

My pop's bike a 98 kamikazi concourse, we watched the idle speed come up 200 rpms by just changing to Royal Purple. to me that explains a lot.

p.s. Royal Purple is one of the top synthetics, like amsoil, mobil 1 etc.

So there is one vote for synthetics. I, myself, run straight black-label dead dinosaurs yama-lube.

The type of oil isn't as important as changing it regularly and making sure you have enough of it in your motor.

Same year as mine, mechanic at my local main dealer advised using semi-synthetic due to possible clutch problems later in life if fully synthetic is used. 6000 mile intervals was the recommendation, apparently it used to be 4000 but was changed during 2002.

Just Remember that if you are going to be using ANY oil make sure that it is specially for motorcycles. i know a couple of people that burned up their clutches because they just used "regular" automotive oil, that was not formulated for motorcycles. Good Luck.
