call me pleb, and I probably deserve it, but how do I post photos on here?

After 400 odd posts and countless offensive although downright whitty remarks I thought it would be a good time to share some photos of me and my baby, and possibly some of the bike as well.

any advice will be kindly received.

cheers

First of all you need to host the picture on a web server. There are free services that will do this for you on the ol 'tinternet' (look up photo hosting on google) or you might have web space allocated by your ISP. If the latter is the case, first of all you usually need to activate it from their website.

To upload a picture to your own web space you'll need an FTP client. I use Totalcommander, which can be downloaded for free http://www.ghisler.com/download.htm and will do all that you need in its unregistered form. Once you have your image hosted on the web, you simply type (without quotation marks) '[img]URL to your image[/image]' in your post.

If that doesn't help, you can always try asking R6 to post the image for you.

alllrighter, that makes a little more sense - although this FTP client shenanigans has confused me. I'll have a word with one of my good friends (his trade is networks and such) and hopefully be up and running in the new year.

cheers mate

Or simply, sign up at the Gallery and add your photos there.

If you then right click on any of your pictures and select 'properties' to find out the URL to the picture. You can then copy and paste this into a forum post by using the 'Img' tag you can see above right...

For example:

If you want to choose the last addition on the Gallery (on the Home Page) then click on it. When the picture comes up you need to right click on the picture and select 'Properties'. You need to copy the URL to the picture, you can do this by double clicking over the post to select the text and pressing Control 'C'.

Then, in a forum thread, such as this one. Paste the URL you copied into the body of the post.

It will look similar to this, the URL of that first picture:

http://www.r6.com/forum/modules/gallery/albums/userpics/10042/normal_DSCF0003.jpg

Then simply select the whole URL text as above and click on the 'Img' tab that lies above right

It will wrap the Img tags (opening and closing) around the URL and when you press preview or submit you will now see the picture...

http://www.r6.com/forum/modules/gallery/albums/userpics/10042/normal_DSCF0003.jpg

Given the width of the forum it is best to you the internediate pictures on the Gallery, certainly not the 2048 px width ones!

Or, yep, you could use R6's method!!

Dont be put off by the FTP client stuff though, its not difficult. If you set up web space with your ISP they typically give you the host name, a user name and password (or you create one). In totalcommander, you would enter the host name (the web server) something like 'www.myisp.net'. Then you enter the username (usually similar to your email address, but not always) in the user name field, and the password in the , thats right, password field. It then opens with two browser panes. One is the server, and one is your PC. All you need to do is drag the files from your PC pane into the server pane. Your file is then hosted on the web. Say you upload an image called mybike.jpg, the URL would be something like http://www.myisp.net/username/mybike.jpg. One thing to watch is that it's case sensitive so you need to get it right.

How easy is that?? You'll be able to post images in any forum plus you will have control over it, cus you'll be able to update, edit or delete the pictures whenever you want.

If you're still confused, let me know.
