Hi, I'm new here. I recently bought a 99 R6. Sweet bike, but the turn signals don't work. The bike has a fender eliminator kit and the integrated tail lights......with the two round lense covers. The brake lights and park lights work. When I try to use the turn signals, I get no response at all. I don't know if the rear lights have the turn signals integrated or not, but the bike does have front turn signal bulbs. I didn't know if all turn signals would not work if one bulb was blown or what. If this helps, the turn indicator on the instrument panel doesn't light up either when I try to initiate the turn signal switch. Any help would greatly appreciated. :)

If the indicator dosen't light up on the instrument panel then maybe check the fuse. When I pull the fuses on my bike ('04) for track days the same thing happens, no indicator light on the instrument panel.

Ya start with the fuse. The front and rear circuit of the turnsignals is seperate so if you had a bulb burn out or was missing the other half would still work.

Do you have any problems with you high beam/low beam? There is a multi-function relay behind the gauge cluster the handles a lot of the lighting on these bikes. If there were some repairs after a crash and it wasn't replaced that may be the source of your problems. I seen several bikes come in without the relays because they are between $65-$100 depending on where you buy it.

Yeah, my high and low beams work just fine!

i had a similar problem a few months ago after i had some work done on it. the turn signals were lighting, just not correctly... it turned out the wires between the housing and the bike werent hooked up properly. it was just a matter of trial and error to get it working. i'd try this route after checking the fuse since they arent lighting at all for you.

Thanks for everyone's input! I tried to get to the fuse box, but I can't seem to break the screw loose that holds the front seat down! Any suggestions for this! The sad thing is that there is only one screw because the other is missing.......but this one screw is giving me hell :| !

I'm not exactly sure about the '99 but the fuses for all the individual circuits is under the left upper panel by the bars on my bike. Thats where I would look. Only the main fuse is located under the seat.

Thanks for the help...I'll try that!

The '99 should be like my '02. It has all the wiring bits under the seat.

As far as breaking the bolt loose, what are you using a T-handle hex head? a socket with a hex bit? or the L style hex keys? If you can, what I've found best is to get the hex key into the fastener as best you can. Then smack it with a hammer driving it deeper into the fastener. This gives you a better bite and also breaks up some of the oxidation that gives you trouble.

I have the multipurpose screwdriver handle with the interchangeable heads. I have hex heads, but it doesn't seem like I have the one that fits exactly right. What is the size of the hex head on that screw?? I thought about hammering the hex bit into the head, but I didn't have anyone to hold the edge of the seat up for me. I'm still working on it  !!

I'll double check when I go out to the shop but I think it's a 5mm. And to aid in holding the seat back, I fold the edge back and put the wrench on the screw and then let the seat fold back against the wrench.

It's plastisized rubber. You're not going to hurt it. (well not without a blade you won't)
