Hi there i am just new here and have bought an r6 just a few weeks back but have noticed some black smoke comming from the exhaust when i give it a bit of revs, i have been told it might be running rich but i would'nt have a clue on how to fix this problem, would anyone be able to give me some advice and tips on how to get it sorted.

unless you know how to fix a carb, i'd imagine take it in and have the dealer look at it..

These bikes are lean runners from the factory, so the only way it's running rich is if she has a jet kit in her. I'd check for previous mods done and removed. If it had a full exhaust and had the stock one put back on before they sold it to you (possibly with a K&N too) this would explain your problem. I would take it to someone with a wideband o2 sensor and have them analyse you exhaust to determine exactly what's going on.

Mine 2000 R6 is running slightly rich with full exhaust and no other mods. I would think factory setup is a bit rich. If it runns lean it could overheat. Black smoke could be caused by other problems with one or more carbs or a bad air filter. Clean it. Increased airflow could possibly solve the problem...
First off, how many miles are on the bike and what is on it as far as intake and exhaust mods. To clear things up, ALL bikes come the manufacturer on the lean side (lean=less emissions, EPA=happy). Then you need to see what has been done to the carbs. How do your plugs look? How does your air filter look? When was the last time your carbs where syncronized? The only way to properly tune a bike is after it is top running condtion. I see to many guys come to my dyno with black plugs and dirty air filters. Then see if there is a jet kit installed or not. The best way is to look for the fuel screw on the bottom of the float bowl. If it is visable and there is no metal in place, then most likely your machine has a jet kit installed. If this is so then you need either to tune it yourself if you are comfortable with carbs or take it to someone you can.
