what do you guys think about SIDI? I saw that they were product of the year per Motor Cyclist Mag. Lil expensive but some of them will make me look like a Power Ranger if I wear leathers.

Do you know if Tims would protect the toes even tho they're not a bike shoe?

I have a pair of the Sidi's as well, I can't say enough about them. I am a tri-athlete and use Sidi cycle shoes for my race bike, and they are sweet as well.

I also have a pair of the ICON super-duty boots, they are good for the price, and they look great with jeans.

This is my first post guys. I just bought a 94' Yamaha Seca this weekend as a beginner bike. But once I get enough hours on that thing an R6 will definitely be the upgrade!

But I need some boots. My cousin rides and about 7 months ago he laid the bike down breaking his ankle and leg. Now he has 8 screws and a foot long plate holding his leg together. (Side note, the cast is off and he has a new bike!!!) Anyway, he had a high-end jacket, gloves, and helmet (all which were torn up in the crash) but his torso head and hands were fine apart from a few cuts and bruises. But he was wearing tennis shoes and he said if he were wearing boots his leg wouldn’t have snapped like a twig.

So I was looking at boots with my friend (who also just started riding, but is under the impression he knows everything) and he says to me the only time I need to be wearing calf high riding boots is when i'm wearing leather riding pants. He says that a boot with a shorter "neck", such as a leather boot from Boot World (local leather boot store) is better for everyday riding with jeans.

So to settle this dispute I called over the employee working at the cycle store we were shopping at. And sure enough, he said, "For riding on a street bike, such as an R6, a racing boot is way safer. If your wearing a 'Harley style' leather boot and you crash you will break your leg much easier than if you were wearing a higher necked boot such as an alpinestar race boot.

I think my friend is more concerned about "style" than with safety first off. I think he thinks that wearing a race style boot with jeans is not "cool" in the "crotch rocket communitiy." and since this IS the crotch rocket community is that true? I mean, it won’t change my view. Im going to go with whatever is safer. He can look cooler than me, but at least my ankles won’t be shattered.

And as for boots. What is a good boot? Price really isn’t an issue here. im willing to spend whatever. Safety is my #1 concern. when I was at the store I was looking a Dianese gear. I really liked the 'Bora' jacket (which I think im going to buy) and I saw some Dianese boots which looked really clean and comfortable. does anyone here have any experience with those? if so I would love to know what you thought of them.

well guys. im sorry for such the long post. I'm new to this whole 'world' and I have ALOT of questions.

Get a good quality, race-style boot. I have the Sidi Vertebra 2, and love it.

Don't wear it with jeans. But the caveat to that is this - don't ride in jeans. Ride in some kind of riding pant all the time. Jeans do pretty much nothing to protect your lower half. If you feel that you must ride in jeans, get something like Draggin' Jeans, which are really riding pants that look like jeans. You can wear your race boots with your Draggin' Jeans.

Right now I have Sidi B-Ones which is their entry level race boot. I like them, they're comfortable. But they don't have as much protection as I would prefer. My next pair will be A*, either the Supertech boot or the SM-X Plus boot. I havent tried them on but they look like they offer a lot of protection, plus Nicky Hayden wears them so they must be good!

I have a Dainese suit and I love it, allthough theres not enough perforation. I would say, and I'm sure a lot of people would agree, that they are among the best brands availible out there.

I too am a fan of the Sidi Vertabra family of boots. I have a set of Corsa's that are super kick @ss.

As far as coolness goes. I give people cred for wearing safety gear. And as long as you don't get some crome/titaniun red white and blue boots that stick out, you should be able to keep a pant leg over them and not that many people will notice.

The downsides I find to wearing race boots on the street, is they generally have a plastic sole which can be difficult when on a slippery surface like hardwood or tile and they tend to have a forward leaning bias which makes standing with your legs straight a bit uncomfortable. But keep a knee bent and you'll be fine.

thanks for the replies guys. im really into snowboarding. and i shake my head in confusion at guys who are high skill level. sure you might think, "if they are so great at snowboarding then why do you need a helmet?" well. its the same thing with riding a motorcycle. the better you get the faster you go and your 'stunts' get crazier.

i was snowboarding in Park City, Utah and i was in the back country with my sister (although a chick, a damn good snowboarder.) and as i was weaving thru the trees i hit a little hump which threw me into the air. well, the hill i was going down was quite steep and i was hauling ass. so even though i was only launched vertically about a foot i travelled horizontally about 10 ft. so then i hit the ground i was going waaaay too fast. so i interntionally fell (at the moment it was the only thing i could think of.) when i fell i started to roll and the only thing out there that had the mass to stop me was a tree...and it did. i hit the back of my head on a trunk and blacked out immediatly. luckily a ski patrol guy was out there (he actually SAW the crash) he said that if it wasnt for my helmet i probably would have died since i hit so hard. (and i was only 19 at the time...jeez)

anyway, moral of the story. guys that are expert riders that are doing 120mph down the highway in t-shirts are the dumbest fu<ks on the planet. the better you get the more protection you need IMO.

As with many above, I ride with Sidi Vertigo's and they are the nuts. Get the Vertigo Corsas if you have another £50 spare, they're, errr, slightly more the nuts!

truer words have not been spoken...

whats sexier a dude with a helmet or a corps...the choice is simple.
