Please Help! I lost my keys and keycode for my 03 R6. Does anyone have any suggestions besides call a locksmith. I have been told that in
order to get a print of my key a locksmith will put a blank one in my ignition and turn it really hard to make marks on the key. In doing so however, they usually screw the ignition up. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Well, its not good news... :(
They may be shorts cuts out there but basically due the the design and set-up of these things you are probably looking at a full replacement.
This would be a new ignition barrel, locks AND immobilisor as this is uniquely associated with each key.
This means you are looking at $800 (£500) at an authorised dealer, parts AND labour (its about 3 hours work).
This is why Yamaha supply 3 keys and you should always keep the red one seperate.
I imagine professional bike thieves can do it cheaper but I dont know any and nor do I want to meet any...

Wow, I'm suprised everyone doesn't know this. Just go to your local dealer with your VIN and proof of ownership and they can look up your lock code on the computer and then you can take that to the locksmith for a $5 key.

i heard of a guy who lost his key and code and had to pay a bunch of $$ when he went to the dealer.

Not true...if you have VIN and proof of ownership they only charge you for the key and for cutting it. It was $4.97 for me to get 2 new keys this way when I lost mine...

yea i have done it for my car too....just write down your vin, bring a copy of your reg and lience and go to a dealer, sometimes they can do it on site if they have the capabilities, and sometimes you may have to call yamaha directly and fax some things to them and they will mail it to you....best of luck
