Pulled the bike out the garage this morning to find the rev needle in the wrong place i.e below the "0" and the little stick that stops it doing that. Very strange. When you fire up it simple moves to the Rev "0" / Stop thing and gets stuck - no surprise there. Has anyone encountered this before?

Never seen it happen, but you can take the Tach (Tachometer - "rev counter") appart, pull the needle off and re-set it correctly.
