Besides kerosene, as recommended in the manual, is there anything else you all use to clean the chain?

WD40 works wonders and lubes the chain too 8)

I've already purchased the Yamaha chain lube. Will I be okay using it in addition to the WD-40? Also, can I just substitute it in place of the chain lube? Would it be harmful?

Yamaha chain lube, WD40...either or...or mix em. It won't harm anything. I use "blue lube" on my Suzuki Z400 (quad) because I go through the mud and it wears the WD40 off too fast. Just keep it lubed up and the rust off of it and you'll be OK

years ago a couple of guys and even a babe told me to use WD-40 to spray off the old lube and dirt; then wipe it off then use chain lube to re-coat the chain. I use Maxima chain wax myself.

I agree with the last post. If your using WD 40 use it for cleaning. It is more of a penatrating fluid than a lube. I also like using the wax chain lube. Less mess and covers the chain well.
