Hey all... i have this clicking noise that goes on for, say like 3 or 4 seconds max when i turn the key to run..... I've also heard the same clicking noise sometimes while riding (80 -90 KMS/Hr) ...ne ideas on what the issue could be or is this normal ???

Also, I've noticed that when i fire up the engine, sometimes my speedo resets ....it goes offline and immeditely comes back on again ...am i inline for something biggg or is it just things that happen with a 2001 R6 ...Thanks for your help ppl... Cheers 8)

hi there,

I too have a clicking when I first turn the key most mornings, think it must just be the fuel pump priming itself.
fiero should know.
FIERO! FIERO...........you there?!

Burnt:
Yes you should be hearing the fuel pump click to build pressure, if you have the kill switch in the "off" position when you turn the key on you should hear the clicks when you fill the kill switch to "on" to verify.

karzee: You should be hearing the same noise on start-up. But you should not be hearing these same sounds while riding. Can you give any more description of the sound? Does it come more from either side? You can check this by riding and kicking out each of your legs at a time, kind of like putting a knee out for a sharp turn.

Thanks for the info Fiero.. Hmm... i think the clicking noise comes from the right side ..but i'll double check it today while riding back home frm work 'n will reply back..

to throw more light on the same... the clicking(while riding)sounds the same as wen the starter is set to 'on' but only more fast paced.. thats y i mentioned that wen the speedo shows 80 or 90 or more... i can hear this clicking noise in the background & under braking i can hear it a bit more...

Thanks again for the info mate.. Cheers

Karzee: Does the clicking noise increase and decrease in speed with the motor speed? If so you might be looking at a Cam Chain Tensioner or CCT. It's an internal part but it really isn't that hard to swap out.

The Clicking noise increases to a certain extent while accelerating (beyond a point, the sound steadies out but is more fast paced).. 'n yeah it does come down under braking... 'n cannot be heard below 25 KMS/Hr ..'n Fiero, i checked for the sound yesterday... it felt like it came from directly below the seat... It was a fine but distinct clicking noise..

is the chain tension too tight or too loose? (should have between 35mm and 45mm slack measured at the centre ) ...just a thought really :? have heard that an over tight chain can make noises (and also vibrations in certain cases)
Maybe the chain and sprockets are worn and need replacing???

I'd agree with an out of adjustment or worn drive chain if the noise was coming from the left side. But since it's the right side you should be concerned about either clutch components or cam drive components.

Thanks for the info ppl...

I'm kinda suspecting the clucth Fiero... coz i can hear some noise coming from the same while the bike is in neutral and this noise dies when i engage clutch to reveal the smooth engine note ..Think i might jus take my baby in for service ('n keep my fingers crossed.... lol) ..also i seem to be finding Netural every now 'n then while shifting up from 1st to 2nd Gear ...hmmm...

Also, Andy, i checked the chain slack... it seems to be ok ..Thanks anyways for your tip mate. :)

Hi,

I have an 00 r6 that has the clicking sound. Its on both sides and increases/decreases with speed. I can actually hear mine all the way coming to a stop. (I have a new chain and sprockets, and the bike only has 7k miles...)

Mine also goes into neutral on occasion when upshifting. I think I might try to adjust my left foot peg to see if that helps. I'll post back on that.

I've reached 7k on mine too.. about 3 days ago... 'n yeah looks like we've got the same issue with our R6's... I'm really eyeing a service soon... but it'd be great if you could give me some feedback on ur lil' test' ..Thanks allout

the flickering of the speedo when you start the bike is because your battery is starting to run low. I get this from time to time when the bike is not being used much.
