: I need help with a "Hydro-Lock" experience w/ my 2

My '03 R6 is currently at the dealership in pieces due to what Yamaha is calling "Hydro-Lock". They found that oil had entered through the air box/filter and filled the piston chambers and caused the engine to lock up. Now, Yamaha says that the only way this can happen is if the bike is on it's side and/or upside down. This is not the case as I was riding it at the time. Can anyone help me with advise or similar cases of their own. I'm not very mechanically inclined, but I do know that I'm not very confident about the engine itself, or the safety issue if the dealership just puts it back together and says it's alright to ride.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It all depends on who is talking for u at the dealership. If the service manager calls Yamaha and just yes's them to death thats usally what happens. If u say that u were riding normally and it happend and there is no damage to the bike then speak up but remember no to get loud w/anyone at the dealership they and yamaha will be more inclined to say no. If u can get them to call back or even get the Yamaha customer relations number from the dealer they ( Yamaha) are very good to their customers. just talk to the dealer who you brought it to and ask for the customer relations number also ask to speak w/the service manager and ask him to send some pics of the bike. I do this everyday man i work at a yamaha dealership :D as for the the motor It's very strong and can take alot of power and miles. it holds up well but everyonce and awile somthing goes wrong. what can ya do? let me know how it goes man. peace

This will also happen (hydro lock from oil) if you overfill the engine with oil. As in "changing" the oil but "forgetting" to drain it. Our bikes take 2.9qt of oil. If you double that ammount it will suck oil in because of the vacuume of the engine and will hydro lock. I know this from experience because I took my 900RR in for service about 4y ago and some dumb ass minimum wage grease monkey forgot to drain the old oil and just "filled her up". I didn't get but 2mi away from the shop and needed a new engine. I got a free engine out of the deal though...
